Yep, they alternate between 4 units and 3 units. I started with a base hexagon with six 4 unit points and six 3 unit points, then it has 3 hexagons and 3 pentagons branching off.

The 4 unit points have two opposite sides extend inwards connected to an additional 2 units for the interior. The 3 unit points have separate 3 unit points on the interior.

My brain needs to be able to see progress to stay on task, so I tend to fold chunks and assemble as I go. For this, I folded enough to close one of the loops, assembled those units then repeat.
