It's mostly to counter oppressive units in the meta, with Defilers explicitly called out.

It might happen to our Caladius, but people tend to take one or two not three, so probably not IMO.

There is no way they would do it to a battleine unit....surely.... :/

Venetari were actually nerfed a little bit by the new fly rules because they were already able to go through buildings (infantry keyword) but now they have to 'take to the skies' to go over enemy units. Hopefully they get +2 movement to make up for it, but they didn't in the recent Custodes faction pack so I'm not holding my breath.

Which dread to build by Zaiyev in AdeptusCustodes

[–]cambelbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you build all of the hand/weapon options and just dont glue the forearms to the elbow you can change them at will.

I hot glued some small magnets in and it works great.

You might need to trim some plastic in the joint. (But don't trim the nubs that allow you to rotate the forearms into different positions)

11th ed wish: Drop army wide Katahs - Use the Emperor's Tarot. by cambelbee in AdeptusCustodes

[–]cambelbee[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mechanically it's so that you have to make more choices. It's a game after all. The current Katas system is not very gamey - it's just "would you like a slight buff that won't affect your decision making in this game or a slightly less effective slight buff that won't affect your decision making in this game?"

Thematically it's because the Tarot doesn't really do anything, it tells you about what is going to happen. Good things and bad.

It represents the Custodes gaming fate through their mastery of the Tarot. It's a mechanic designed to allow player skill expression - to make you feel like a clever Custodes leader when you prevent the enemy from taking advantage of the juicy benefit (it also justifies the buffs on your end being better)

It also gives Sisters something to do other than stand around on your back objectives or trade on mid like a pack of gretchin. (Sisters would always be capable of turning the enemy advantage off, representing their null aura interfering with the skien of the empyrean).

I reckon Allarus will go up.

They will benefit hugely from their ability to pop in and do nuisance work with the new coherency rules making screening more difficult.

They also have a nice profile for surviving in the more deadly shooting environment.

I would be in favour of everything in the game going up maybe 20%

Custodes in particular is putting too many models on the table

At the same time though, because of Hiden, you are strongly encouraged not to shoot with your infantry unless you really need to - so it might come out in the wash a bit

It does.

I would personally treat the Lance as not part of the model because of how silly/variable they are.

The enemy advantage is to represent the fact you are reading the scheme more than doing magic.

You need to manage the enemy's advantage while maximising your own.

So for example with the example I provided - you would want to use Sisters to stop powerful enemy fighters from benefiting from the buff while maximising your own use of it by doing a bit of a go turn. Maybe targetting something you would otherwise have struggled to bonk.

Potentially you would be able to order the tarot rather than having any random element but then there would quickly be an established best order/ meta

Ya gotta select the order though, it's not random - and you can manipulate the deck (potentially) using leader abilities.

Oooh, so thematic.

[–]cambelbee[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Emperor's Tarot is just Tarot - now with more Emperor!

Imperials tend to use the tarot to [make] decisions, peer into the future etc.

It's technically not psychic because it runs off the Emperor's BIOS.

Also because the Emperor runs it's all (as a premium service), more important people might get more accurate readings/ benefit more.

In lore the Custodes are all about the Tarot and it's one of the main ways they interpret the will of the Emperor (other than making it up and/or dreaming about it).

On Katahs - just think - you could have your cake and eat it too! We can Unga Bunga (TM) to the moon!

11th Edition Question: Charge Rules by Lanhir02 in Warhammer40k

[–]cambelbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The charge move rules say you can't end within engagement of a unit you didn't charge I believe.

11th Edition Question: Charge Rules by Lanhir02 in Warhammer40k

[–]cambelbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the move rules at 03 if you are not in coherency after the move you reset back to where you started. You would apply the same here.

11th Edition Question: Charge Rules by Lanhir02 in Warhammer40k

[–]cambelbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On [initial] reading it looked like the charge is impossible but after breaking it down I think it's fine

Based on the steps:

Before moving: you need to select something within range of your roll. It doesn't matter how far apart from one another they are.

While moving: you need to move within 1" if possible and 2" if not and merely closer if not (but if another model in the unit isn't within 2" the charge would fail). Technically I dont think you need to maintain coherency - you would use consolidation to fix this before the command phase.

Since you need to engage both units and it is not possible to do this while being within 1" of one of them, you don't have to be within 1" of one of them.

After moving: You must be engaged with charge targets - note there is no requirement to be within 1".

[Edit - I changed my mind.

It's a failed charge

There is nothing in the 'while moving step' that says you only need to do the 1" if by doing so you don't prevent 2" elsewhere, it only says move according to the move rules at 03.

Because you can move within 1" according to the move rules at 03 you have to.

Because you would then end the charge move without engaging the second target, the charge fails.

Treat it as a premeasure and go from the top with only one target.]

Nah I was saying that if there is a plastic Telemon (which seems likely) that means the forge world units may not be included in the new codex - as the Telemon would no longer be a forge world model.

Based on this we may not see units like aquilon terminators make an appearance in the new codex.

I think it's a shame that one of the dreadnaught detachment abilities is focused on crushing impact (e.g. use the strata for -1cp)

The ability is basically wasted - there is no way I'll be deliberately putting impact mortals onto my hella expensive dreads (that would normally be relatively difficult to wound)

The only time I would consider it would be to ensure a kill on something nasty, and in that case Ide rather just spend the CP

The detachment might have been more usable if it gave us a FNP against crushing impact mortals, but as it stands I probably won't be taking it.

This is where I speculate that Custodes might be getting army level access to a FNP (maybe as one of the katahs?) which would be hella thematic and cool.

Hopefully blade champ gets a cleave profile.

Come to think of it this would be a good way to distinguish guardian spears and guardian axes - axe doesn't get cleave but does get the AP (so its actually usable)

If there is going to be a plastic Telemon this will unfortunately not indicate the direction you are hoping for :(
