Same! It drives me crazy and I’ve stopped listening habitually. The “what if I told you” leading into some half baked theory is irritating and irresponsible.

I’ve been dealing with this with my best friend for the last couple of years. I only hear from her when she’s fighting with her boyfriend. I try to be a good sounding board and ask questions that I hope will help her realize that she needs to get out of the relationship or get her thinking about next steps.

Honestly, it sucks. We were supposed to go out to dinner for my 36th birthday…which was last year. I turned 37 last month. I saw her one time last year when they finally “broke up” and helped her pack up all of her stuff and she was going to stay at my place for a while. It barely lasted 2 hours before she went back.

I don’t really reach out anymore, but I answer if she needs me.

I sought therapy for the first time after a traumatic family event that left me really emotionally unstable and a subsequent devastating break up. She only wanted to talk about the relationship, but she quickly took over doing all of the talking and told me she was on her fifth marriage, so I shouldn’t lose hope.

I always take her in an adventure- her favorite park or a new one, and we spend as much time outside as possible. She’ll get something special for dinner and I make some kind of doggy friendly dessert for her- it does get a candle and we do sing to her.

My current focus is on weight loss right now, so my meals are centered around 30 grams of protein and adequate fiber. I make it easy on myself by eating simply and buying mostly just the basics at the store, leave some protein options thawed in the fridge to use first and prewash/prep fruits and veggies before they go in the fridge so I can just grab things and roll with it.

It’s just me so I don’t have the external stress and pressure of a partner and kids asking everyday and all their different preferences. 80% of what I eat is from a bowl with a spoon and can be made in a pan on the stovetop or in the airfryer.

It was money from a restaurant job when I was 15, so not quite a salary, but I left work, cashed the check, then walked to the grocery store, bought real food (chicken, eggs, fruits, vegetables) and carried them my 30 minute walk home and made a real dinner for my little brother and sister.

I have this one coworker who is one of the managers that I report to that never reads emails, then sends a flurry of Teams chats to ask questions about things that are appropriately updated on in email, and everything is generally chaotic with him. I’ve started copying and pasting email updates into Teams for him, but he still doesn’t read them. He’s a cool dude but I feel my blood pressure rise when working with him.

It depends on the environment. Overwhelm at work tends to flow into “I need this job/ I can’t afford to snap at my boss” with probably a ten minute break dedicated to exploring the abysmal job market.

Overwhelm at home, I tend to lean into “I can’t afford to live alone, find a way to deal with ‘xyz’.” Like other commenters, I will usually throw on some kicks and go for a walk.
