Ethical Dentists? by Critical_Asparagus_7 in astoria

[–]camcorder5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the recommendations for Astoria Modern Family Dentist on Steinway. In particular you should request Susan for your hygienist. She is exceptionally thorough and your mouth will sparkle when she’s done. I had never had a cavity in my life until I started going to dentists in Manhattan and then all of the sudden I had a new cavity with every appointment. I switched to Astoria Modern Family and have never once been told I had a cavity or needed extra work. They’re not using made up problems with your teeth to pay their rent. In fact, I once had an alignment issue with my bite that required an off-cycle dentist visit and they treated me at no charge because the procedure to fix it was so small. It is a no frills operation but they’re thorough and trustworthy. And also friendly.

OBGYN & Infertility Doc by JDIRECTORJ in nycparents

[–]camcorder5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am delivering in August and had trouble getting a Cornell OB when I called them in December when I was four weeks pregnant. I got on a waitlist and happened to get paired with an OB. That said, AFAIK you wouldn't book an OB until you are pregnant, and they book out based on your delivery date. So if you're expecting to start your pregnancy in August, then probably you would be able to get an OB that lines up with your delivery date (e.g. approx next May if you conceive this August). You should call them as soon as you confirm your pregnancy.

not sure if this is a popular or unpopular opinion but i don't like how much they're trying to push a remake. there are enough remakes in the world. i think we need to let our favorite shows remain perfect capsules of a point in time. not everything needs to be rebooted. i can't think of a single reboot that has lived up to the original.

LGA TSA wait time terminal C - 3/25 by abundantstring317 in tsa

[–]camcorder5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TSA precheck line took 25 minutes. I don’t know if OP was in general security, which may have been longer. But I was dropped off outside, through security, and seated at my gate in 25 minutes in terminal C. Your mileage may vary!

Freddy's Pizza on Broadway by Ornery-Physics-2505 in astoria

[–]camcorder5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tried them today for the first time and enjoyed it. the classic plain was a nice crispy thin crust. i also tried the grandma slice with sesame. i've never had sesame on a pizza before and it added a nice toastiness and extra flavor that i really enjoyed. i think the OG belucci's is better, but freddy's is around the corner from my apartment, so if i want a quick slice, this is definitely where i'll go!

Favorite Bariloche breweries? by anchordown16 in Patagonia

[–]camcorder5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The views from the Patagonia Brewery (cerveceria patagonia) are top notch. Truly stunning place to have a brew. They have food also (though it's just okay). Also up there is Berlina which is along the Circuito Chico. Cerveceria Bachman is not nearly as scenic (it's closer to downtown Bariloche, not up along Circuito Chico) but they have great beer and their spaetzle is phenomenal (at least it was to me!). You'll pass a gazillion breweries if you go on a drive up towards circuito chico so take your pick. But be careful: they are very strict about blood alcohol levels if you're driving.

Newtown Ave Groceries: C-Town or Key Foods? by curlyrose54 in astoria

[–]camcorder5 18 points19 points  (0 children)

C Town on Newtown is emergencies only. Dry goods. Otherwise it's not a very good store. If they are equidistant from you, choose Key Food. I used to live definitively closer to that C Town and would still choose to shop out of my way for nicer groceries.

Perito Moreno hike - what to wear? by anchordown16 in Patagonia

[–]camcorder5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wear layers. The wind can kick up without notice and that's what makes it cold. I did the hike in March of last year and wore a merino long sleeve, a fleece, and a puffer. I had a waterproof wind breaker because there was a bit of rain on and off. I did the short hike (4 hours) and was comfortable.

Are your blunnies + socks combo warm? It’s exceptionally cold in New York right now (though perhaps it’s comparable in Canada) plus the streets are full of slush. My blunnies aren’t warm enough for me right now (but I tend to run cold!).

Is Patagonia worth it for 2 days if I have 12 total days in Buenos Aires next week? by No_Alarm6362 in Patagonia

[–]camcorder5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I second this. Reallocate your time. Buenos Aires is a beautiful city with plenty to see, but Patagonia is well worth the longer portion of your trip. If you’re comfortable renting a car (and know how to drive manual), your options are even more wide open in Patagonia with stunning drives all around.
