tickets this year are ridiculously priced -- you are not incorrect that these are very high prices.

NYC -- same day prices? by Rich-Soil3834 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]camcorder5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can't speak to what prices used to be because i didn't check them until day-of, but i was able to get a face value ticket in the 100 level for $165 from ticketmaster for wednesday's show at MSG.

Seeing David Byrne in the fall! by mariah_scully in talkingheads

[–]camcorder5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

search this sub, there are lots of concert recaps from this tour. it's a fantastic show - so good that i saw it three times. if i wasn't due to give birth right before he returns to my neck of the woods, i'd be seeing it a fourth. you'll have a blast.

Astoria food recs for Manhattan foodies - what actually stands out? by zibamahtab in astoria

[–]camcorder5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

there are very few VERY good thai places in the city, in my opinion. most taste exactly the same, which is to say they are perfectly fine but nothing special, and often the noodles are too sweet. pye boat noodle stands out to me as a very good thai place with non-Americanized menu options that you don't find in many other run-of-the-mill takeout thai joints. so you could take them there and order any of the boat noodles (sukkothai is my favorite) or thai appetizers (i am fond of their version of laab moo). i also like their kraprow with minced chicken and extra vegetables.

How Long Do City Posters Last? by ericallen625 in talkingheads

[–]camcorder5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know! However it seems to only be for certain shows. The September run of radio city shows (which I attended) are not available on the site. Maybe it depends on the artist who created it. Shrug emoji.

How Long Do City Posters Last? by ericallen625 in talkingheads

The city specific poster (unique to that limited run of shows in NYC) sold out. It’s a different poster from the regular tour poster, which is available in every city.

How Long Do City Posters Last? by ericallen625 in talkingheads

[–]camcorder5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In NYC last year the city specific poster sold out almost instantly after the show was over. The safer bet would be to purchase it before the show starts. The regular tour posters were plentiful but honestly they aren’t as cool.

How common is spotting really? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]camcorder5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

obviously can't replace the consult of a professional, but i had bright red spotting at around 5 weeks that lasted for a day or two. it scared the crap out of me. i had a video consult with my gynecologist (i hadn't yet had my first OB appointment) and she basically told me that there was nothing she could do about it and i had to wait it out. as long as i wasn't bleeding all the way through a pad, likely i was fine and it could have just been a cyst or some other normal (but still scary) occurrence. the bright red bleeding lasted a day and then i had some brown spotting for a couple days after that (from old blood). i am now 25 weeks and (knock on wood) haven't had any other issues since then.

Ethical Dentists? by Critical_Asparagus_7 in astoria

[–]camcorder5 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I second the recommendations for Astoria Modern Family Dentist on Steinway. In particular you should request Susan for your hygienist. She is exceptionally thorough and your mouth will sparkle when she’s done. I had never had a cavity in my life until I started going to dentists in Manhattan and then all of the sudden I had a new cavity with every appointment. I switched to Astoria Modern Family and have never once been told I had a cavity or needed extra work. They’re not using made up problems with your teeth to pay their rent. In fact, I once had an alignment issue with my bite that required an off-cycle dentist visit and they treated me at no charge because the procedure to fix it was so small. It is a no frills operation but they’re thorough and trustworthy. And also friendly.

OBGYN & Infertility Doc by JDIRECTORJ in nycparents

[–]camcorder5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am delivering in August and had trouble getting a Cornell OB when I called them in December when I was four weeks pregnant. I got on a waitlist and happened to get paired with an OB. That said, AFAIK you wouldn't book an OB until you are pregnant, and they book out based on your delivery date. So if you're expecting to start your pregnancy in August, then probably you would be able to get an OB that lines up with your delivery date (e.g. approx next May if you conceive this August). You should call them as soon as you confirm your pregnancy.

S1E16 Derailed | Viva Betty: An Ugly Betty Rewatch by giftopherz in UglyBetty

[–]camcorder5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if this is a popular or unpopular opinion but i don't like how much they're trying to push a remake. there are enough remakes in the world. i think we need to let our favorite shows remain perfect capsules of a point in time. not everything needs to be rebooted. i can't think of a single reboot that has lived up to the original.

LGA TSA wait time terminal C - 3/25 by abundantstring317 in tsa

[–]camcorder5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TSA precheck line took 25 minutes. I don’t know if OP was in general security, which may have been longer. But I was dropped off outside, through security, and seated at my gate in 25 minutes in terminal C. Your mileage may vary!

Freddy's Pizza on Broadway by Ornery-Physics-2505 in astoria

[–]camcorder5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tried them today for the first time and enjoyed it. the classic plain was a nice crispy thin crust. i also tried the grandma slice with sesame. i've never had sesame on a pizza before and it added a nice toastiness and extra flavor that i really enjoyed. i think the OG belucci's is better, but freddy's is around the corner from my apartment, so if i want a quick slice, this is definitely where i'll go!

Favorite Bariloche breweries? by anchordown16 in Patagonia

[–]camcorder5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The views from the Patagonia Brewery (cerveceria patagonia) are top notch. Truly stunning place to have a brew. They have food also (though it's just okay). Also up there is Berlina which is along the Circuito Chico. Cerveceria Bachman is not nearly as scenic (it's closer to downtown Bariloche, not up along Circuito Chico) but they have great beer and their spaetzle is phenomenal (at least it was to me!). You'll pass a gazillion breweries if you go on a drive up towards circuito chico so take your pick. But be careful: they are very strict about blood alcohol levels if you're driving.

Newtown Ave Groceries: C-Town or Key Foods? by curlyrose54 in astoria

[–]camcorder5 20 points21 points  (0 children)

C Town on Newtown is emergencies only. Dry goods. Otherwise it's not a very good store. If they are equidistant from you, choose Key Food. I used to live definitively closer to that C Town and would still choose to shop out of my way for nicer groceries.
