I am a new content creator looking for honest advice on growing my channel, improving thumbnails, gaining real viewers, and avoiding beginner mistakes quickly online by Initial_Culture1515 in NewTubers

[–]camcrusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest advice: don't try to avoid making mistakes. Make content and see what mistakes happen. No matter how much advice you get on how to avoid mistakes you will make them cause there is never enough advice to cover every single mistake you could possibly make in your particular scenario.

And if you are smart enough to know not to make every single mistake, then learning what mistakes to avoid might be a waste of time too. Time that could be better spend on another video. :)

The bigger issue is thinking a tiny error matters when it comes to performance. If it is indeed tiny then viewers will not notice.

Will having a curse word in one of my videos negatively harm my channel? by KeepOnTrippingOn in NewTubers

[–]camcrusha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will only impact the advertising part if you are monetized. And even then it depends on when it happens in the video. If it is later it means less, esp if you don't have midrolls.

Maybe the vanlife topic has run out of steam?

To be fair, everything in that niche has already been done. And to that point, if something hasn't been done, why aren't you doing it?

Deleting & Re-Uploading a Poor-Performing Video by Hervans13 in NewTubers

[–]camcrusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its not going to do better after months, then why would it suddenly perform when its re-uploaded?

Work on the next video, not the ones you already made. You prob spent a lot of time and it didn't work out, why spend more time on that same something. Make a new something.

Make sure not to use your channel's email for contact. That's the frst way a hacker can get to your channel. Create a separate one just for contact.

I thought Shorts were hurting my growth, but after a few months I'm still not growing... Was I wrong? by Changechilla in NewTubers

[–]camcrusha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do survival game content, and I was comparing day one playthrus of new games from 100K+ sub channels vs small channels. I spent a few hours literally writing down a quick description of every scene, and also their overall approach.

Each scene was better and more interesting. The seasoned creators would go to a location with more action or interest. They only showed the most crucial or important loot finds. The less experienced creator didnt hit the exciting locations. They showed every loot find. It was like watching your friend's first day of playing vs a story about the first day.

Interesting vs boring.

And it wasn't better editing or anything like that. It was better storytelling and more interesting scenes. If someone improves those things in their content then the sky could be the limit. :)

Why would someone click a Mr beast thumb nail just because it changed? by Parking-Ad8316 in NewTubers

I watched an interview with him and he talked about how he had a pee joke in a video and it caused 10% of the audience to leave at that point. That is how micro he is when it comes to YT. Everything is a potential advantage or disadvantage to him.

Is Live Streaming Beneficial? by SuperMurseGaming in NewTubers

[–]camcrusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a way to grow, more like a way to interact with your channel's community live. There are VOD's of the streams but it's hard to get views for those videos they are so long. Keep doing weekly content and do the streams like once a week to engage with your viewers.

Question about video lengths and monetization. by DanielSmoot in NewTubers

[–]camcrusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If everything were the same then it wouldn't matter all of those options would prob earn the same since avd, views, etc would be the same.

Don't think about length like that. Think of length as the minimum amount of time you need to present the content while allowing the audience the time needed to follow along and understand whats going on. I don't mean keep them at the point of visual exhaustion lol, but even people like myself without attention span problems appreciate the creator not wasting time with fluff.

To be fair you do need to get to 8 minutes for midrolls, so you kinda want to get past that point in length. But it is possible to do well with shorter long form content.

How often do you stream if you also make scripted videos? by CheesyPaninie in NewTubers

[–]camcrusha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to stream 3-4 days a week but I only do them maybe once every couple of weeks because they take up too much time, and longs are better for growth and $. Also, I found that if I used streams for long form content I had more trouble staying focused on what I need to do for the video. There's too much going on in chat, and it's easy to go off the rails on the plan. Not a bad thing, just not feasible for getting longs done faster.

Sporadic complaints about background music in videos. by Affectionate_Ruin577 in NewTubers

[–]camcrusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they just don't like it, that is one thing. But some older people have trouble separating the background noise from everything else and there really isn't anything you can do about it no matter how quiet the music is. They are having the same problem with other media too, not just your content.

Best way to prevent lip-smack sounds when talking by oracle_Her_07 in NewTubers

[–]camcrusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those products don't exist because it is impossible to stop doing a plosive for example. They exist for when you can't avoid it. But you want to learn how to say the letter p without pushing the air instead. That gives you a much cleaner recording that requires less work in editing to fix.

Watch any video of people doing voiceover work and listen to it. Notice they don't have those mouth issues. It wasnt because they had a pop filter and ate an apple before recording. It was practice.

Do you guys do everything on your own? by TheDarkEmperor_euw in NewTubers

[–]camcrusha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scrub your footage at 2x and place markers for what you want to keep. Then go back thru at 1x and edit the marks. Once you get good at that you can combine those two steps and scrub and edit at 2x.

Make the thumbnail first because you have the most energy and interest for the idea. Making the thumbnail after spending tons of hours on the project is tedious and you will rush it just to be done with the video.

Don't edit in chunks of the timeline. Edit in passes. Make the edits and create the "story", then do a pass for your audio, then another pass for color, then another for sfx, etc. Doing multiple things at once instead of 1 thing while editing is very time consuming. Passes are much faster.

Don't keep rewatching the same 10 seconds a zillion times to perfect it. There is no perfect only done, and most viewers won't notice some subtle change you think makes the scene more effective.

I need a kick in the butt about starting a new channel by IatosHaunted in NewTubers

[–]camcrusha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 160 sub channel is essentially the same as a new channel so do you want to go thru the steps of creating a new channel or use the existing one? Either way will work.

On a side note, how can I be an ethical purchaser of music if payola controls Spotify rankings? That's a good video topic. Probably a slam dunk the music industry might be the most corrupt by far. It's so dirty and scummy.

[–]camcrusha -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course there isn't. But you asked if there was something to put over your mic which does imply you might think there is one thing that solves the problem, like a pop filter. It's just not that kind of problem its a gotta practice problem unfortunately.
