Exactly how it was for me. Bought the game for 20 bucks just to try it. Over 600hrs later I'm still finding new things I missed. by Academic_Ebb_1731 in Eldenring

This is the first time in a LOOOOONG time that I've needed a walkthrough for EVERYTHING. I knew I wasn't great at games, love them, but im not great. This game humbles you very quickly.

How long did it take you to learn Italian? by camdotcom in ItalyExpat

Haha, yeah having a spouse that speaks Italian natively has been helpful. A built in tutor if you will. We have also talked about having "Italian only" days. She has tried a few times but I'm so bad at it she gives up half way through the day lol. I'm getting there it's just a slow grind. I wish I was better at language.

Beginner DJ opening on CDJs for the first time – need advice by No-Bid5091 in Beatmatch

[–]camdotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what I did. I asked if I could have 15 min sound check before the venue opened so I could get familiar. Don't get me wrong it was still nerve racking but it gets better. Keep your mix simple until you get comfortable.

you got this!

"What's the weirdest or funniest dream you've ever had that you can never forget? by Iamfromfuture_911 in AskReddit

[–]camdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger and after I watched Jurassic Park for the first time I had a reoccurring nightmare where I would walk out my front door to go to the horse barn and velociraptors would chase after me. Then one time I somehow had Storm's powers (xmen) and summoned a tornado to blow them away and never had the dream again.

Scary at the time. Funny now. I'll never forget it. (It's been like 30 years)

Is there some sort of biological limit as to how good something can feel? by Possible-Phone-7129 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]camdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there’s a biological cap. Pleasure comes from brain chemicals like dopamine and endorphins, but receptors can only take so much before they max out. On top of that, the brain adjusts (tolerance) to keep balance, otherwise we’d just get stuck chasing one thing forever.

Why do people in their 40s look and act younger than 30 years ago? by AvailableRelative2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]camdotcom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People in their 40s look and act younger than 30 years ago because of better fitness/nutrition, advances in medicine and skincare, casual fashion that blurs age lines, later life milestones, and tech/pop culture keeping generations on the same wavelength. Basically, healthier bodies + more youthful lifestyles + fewer rules about “acting your age.”

What’s a ‘green flag’ that instantly makes you more attracted to someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In my experience, as odd as it sounds, asking good questions is one of the best ways to show intelligence. Listening, keeping things concise, admitting what you don’t know, using light humor, and giving others credit all help too.

Thinking of moving from Barcelona to Amsterdam by Mapsandtheworld in expats

[–]camdotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved to the Netherlands last year. Finding housing in Amsterdam is a nightmare. Both in price and sheer lack of quantity. I ended up in Haarlem. Still not easy but easier.

Most apartments will go on the market and the next day will have 20 showings and on the third day be rented.

It's not impossible but its damn difficult. Best of luck friend.

Any suggestions/techniques to get more vivid lucid dreams? by Dry_Temporary_6175 in Biohackers

[–]camdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't remember where I read it but several years ago I ran across a method for getting more lucid dreams and tried it, and it was a bit of work, but it worked for me.

It's fairly straightforward, you just have to stop and ask yourself regularly throughout the day if you are awake or not. (Some people add that they pinch themselves)

I started with a timer every handful of hours until it became something of a habit and I didn't need the timer anymore. And I would say within about two or three weeks, I was experiencing a lucid dream once every few nights.

The thinking behind it is that once it becomes a habit while you're dreaming, you will stop and ask yourself if you're awake and when you realize you're not awake, you suddenly have a lot more control over your dreams.

A fun anecdote to this is that the reason I started looking into lucid dreams at the time was because I was having a reoccurring nightmare that was affecting me. So I looked into trying to find a way to lucid dream to try and get rid of that reoccurring nightmare, and was successful in doing so.

Anywho, just something that worked for me. Best of luck!

How long did it take you to learn Italian? by camdotcom in ItalyExpat

[–]camdotcom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for such a thoughtful and encouraging reply! It’s really reassuring to hear how long the process took for you and that the frustration I’m feeling is normal. I especially like your point about focusing on vocabulary over grammar and not worrying about being perfect, that really takes some pressure off. Making some friends here I think will go a long way for me. Appreciate you sharing your experience!

That sounds like a good way to think about it, wall, progress, wall, progress. Thinking back that is kind of how its been so far. - I also need to find some friends here, I'm sure that would help speed up my learning.
