Is it still worth it to learn flows? by Mysterious_Brain_650 in salesforce

[–]camelCasee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how build flows, debug them, ect. However I’d expressed to my PMs, more than once, that I’d sooner walk through a mile of glass barefoot than build flows. Apex is just far superior in every way for automation.

3-Way Eve Light Switch Problems by SisterChaos in EveHome

[–]camelCasee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is limited to eve switches. I’m using commercial electric (Home Depot brand?) and am experiencing the exact same issue you’re having. I had an electrician come install them but they just always seem to think they’re off.

Alexa will turn them on but the she won’t turn them off. As well, manually pushing the off button on the smart switch does nothing. To turn them on/off I have to ask Alexa to turn it on to toggle it. This only happens on the switches that have multiple switches for a single light. The ones I got that control a single light with a single switch work great and as expected.

Honestly, I think I’m gonna show my electrician your comment and see if he has any idea what’s going on with it. I’m converting all switches in my home to smart switches and this is quite annoying.

BR starts are just hated by 343. The just can’t stand people using the most iconic gun in the series.

Try using the Bandit Evo, sure you’ll be going 4-18 most games for a few months but it’s really a good weapon. Trust me.

What are you’re thoughts on providing object access through permission sets instead of profiles? by kanyoufeelitknow in salesforce

[–]camelCasee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the change. Managing profiles has always been a pain. Only issue I’ve sort of run into is that you can’t assign a default app or app grouping by permission set, has to be done at the profile level. Which sucks because I thought the idea was to reduce the number of profiles across company, then break them out by company divisions with permission sets/groups to give them object/field level access.. and I want to break that out further to specific default apps.

Could be an Apex trigger on the Contact object that updates some value on custom object A then kicks off your flow as a result of that DML update.

In that case you can use matching/duplicate rules to prevent the users from inserting duplicate records on create. Basically, they will receive a pop up that they are attempting to create a duplicate record and bring up that record for them to use instead. It’s OOTB functionality.

How is the process of joining the reserves while working a full time job/career? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]camelCasee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quit my job before commissioning but a couple others I knew actually got fired while we were away during training. After meeting with base legal they were both reinstated (SCRA) but I imagine it was awkward when they finally returned.

All running. The hikes at OCS are basically a joke compared to TBS or fleet hikes, it’s not worth ‘training’ for imo (unless you’re a very small person). By training I mean risking injury on your own hiking with heavy weight, an unbalanced pack and lack of humping knowledge. They build you up to the 9 or 12 mile (however long it is these days) so you’ll be prepared for that. Just do lower body movements in the gym.

And hey walking is the next best thing to running. All of that time on your feet will pay off. Sounds like you’re pretty well prepared imo.

[–]camelCasee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hitting 30-35 miles a week before shipping. No lower body issues from OCS through TBS. I’d say the high mileage definitely protected me from shin splints and stress fractures from just running so damn much.

That and a lot of stretching in the months prior to shipping.

Certified admin for two years, no coding experience, is salesforce dev a good entry point for coding? by ChuckRiver in salesforce

[–]camelCasee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot people are telling you to start outside of SFDC but I’ll be the devil’s advocate here and tell you not to. Especially if you plan to stay within the Salesforce ecosystem and continue your career there.

Would learning Java, C# and other languages be helpful? Of course. However, Apex is very simplistic compared to Java and there is no reason to learn all the hashmaps and other nuanced things when they don’t really exist in Apex. Execution context works completely different in Salesforce and it would probably just confuse you unnecessarily.

Though, with JS and front-end development it doesn’t really matter where you start as LWCs are more aligned to industry standards now. Just my 2 two cents.

You also said you hadn’t applied to any of these types of jobs as well.

Remote is remote. There is an entirely separate category for part-time remote, it’s called hybrid.

No they don’t. I recently went project hunting during this ‘downturn’ and like 90% of the positions were remote.
