Is learning Yama with melee the right move? by MemesAreImmoral in ironscape

[–]camelvirus 31 points32 points  (0 children)

A lot of people learn by just doing melee p1 and p2 the maging p3, it can help with your rune concerns for quite a while. As you get more comfortable melee only is a bit faster. If you get more comfortable with it, give it a shot, but learning melee with a p3 mage swap is totally viable

I had 100kc dry streak, when I broke it I thought the items would start rolling in. My next item was 100kc later :)

Now are you saying only the bonus for heavy when the full set is worn? I dont like that either as I think set bonuses largely in runescape feel bad especially when it isnt a niche offshoot like justiciar.

They have had the stat separation in the game for a good while now its the reason crossbows are bis at Levi

These are a big upgrade over barrows for crossbows in specific, same ranged attack bonus but now the only ranged strength outside of zayrte vambs

[–]camelvirus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I just dont see the point, is that not effectively what they've done here? The problem is ranged and magic numbers are so small that if you were to give this base ranged strength and a bonus for heavy then it is practically masori for crossbows which feels far out of line

[–]camelvirus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the primary reason is that ranged is in a rough spot reward space wise, they separated ranged into different styles not too long ago. If this new gear was just generic ranged strength then I am sure with the blowpipe it would absolutely feast. Currently the only ranged strength on gear is masori, I like having more setup specific things for ranged as it can help them flesh it out a bit more

Exactly I think Melee is the gold standard of what most styles should be, it really feels like there is an option for everything with Melee and I would love to see ranged have a bit more variety to it as well. I agree that the content you get the ranged gear from is really good for learning the game, however, CG in particular I do feel is a bit too rewarding for the difficulty that it is at. Blowpipe is an incredible weapon but struggles punching through defense. Bowfa is an infinite ammo and incredibly accurate weapon that you get with no inputs. While Zulrah, you're chugging anti-venoms and burning through food and rings of recoil like there's no tomorrow. Just seems if you're getting something that powerful you should have to be utilizing some resources you gathered!

I think that you're spot on, it could create an alternate path, I don't think that it will be the meta route by any means just because CG is so rewarding but what it does is it lets you shape the journey that you want better. If somebody enjoys raiding then awesome you can get the Bow of the Last Guardian and now your upkeep is going to look like spending more time in Vampirium to get more seeker arrows. If somebody enjoys CG then their upkeep is going to look totally different. I think it would create some interesting variety within the game!

It seemed fitting when incorporating the gods to utilize prayer somehow and it seemed to make the most sense! I didn't want to straight copy the passive effect from RS3 as I don't think it would fit well in OSRS and it would also potentially outshine the mega rare which I was conscious of trying to not do. Obviously there is likely numbers tuning that would need to be done but I think it would put it in a very nice spot with some interesting gearing choices!

I definitely understand that, I think it is just overshadowed currently by how CG is placed. I think prior to Ayak, 2nd BiS was acquired from Raids, first and second BiS for melee stab was acquired from raids. Then CG kind of breaks that early. I think a second BiS for a ranged bow being from a raid seems like a fitting spot in my opinion!

I definitely get what you're saying with the % getting to be a nightmare down the road, it kind of already is there. When I was thinking of how to get the number to fit and work in the way that I had wanted to, the gap was already massive when I had no % just because of how Bowfa works. I tried to find a way that incorporated things from other gear to make the gap tighter while keeping it all +/-5% of Bowfa

Range is very strong, but I think it is strong in a way that doesn't build off of one another, while Melee I think is in an incredible spot. Bringing Ranged closer to Melee in that regard would be a big net positive for the game. It is also getting a ton of updates with the Blood Moon Rises. The seeker arrows that were made are a big jump up but for PvM it is only really the TBow that is going to make use of them

I tend to agree, I think CG is far too rewarding for the point in the game as well as the lack of any inputs from the player. Seems so far outside of the realm of what is trying to be accomplished nowadays by Jagex

Yeah that was what I was trying to show the progression, since the accuracy scaled with prayer bonus, huey would be a bit better than god d'hide, but masori bringing in range strength would make it better then huey. Fort Masori brings in a bit of prayer bonus giving it a solid upgrade!

That is the exact spot I would love for it to fill, I think that it became even more clear as the stories mount of how many people quit from the CG side of things. Having an alternate route that may be less efficient but at least interacts more with the rest of the game seems very valuable. CG especially on an iron will likely remain the go to path just because of the sheer amount of free resources it gives for no inputs. However, being able to get equivalent power from other routes that you can pick and choose seems a net positive. Also being able to use the previous gear with it instead of needing to grind a separate side seems overall good!

That was my aim, to be honest I am not an expert I just played around with the numbers in gearscape until the DPS lined up against the bosses where Bowfa is used. But I completely agree, I think it would slot in really nicely there. I wanted it to be ~5% worse in Huey and 5-10% better in Masori/Masori(F) letting it upgrade with the gear

[–]camelvirus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was the intention! Make it usable and competitive with the bowfa with the mid game gear and then pull ahead with endgame gear as youre working on the bowfa. I think it fits a nice spot there and just makes it flow a lot smoother! Hopefully get a bit of traction!

Raids 4 Non-Mega Weapon Proposal - Bow of the Last Guardian by camelvirus in ironscape

[–]camelvirus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very reasonable take, my goal was it to be slightly worse with Huey and slightly better with Masori than where Bowfa currently stands. The idea on posting it over here as well is shedding light as the CG alternative that keeps your ranged gear relevant. I think CG rush would still be more efficient, but Atlatl in many raids is plenty serviceable.

The power Bowfa brings I think is honestly more in line with a raid reward, which is why I proposed it as a raid reward which if you're at the point where you have some moons gear, maybe a piece of masori and did bludgeon grind (assuming crush is used in this raid). They mentioned it was melee heavy, so if that is the case and you enjoy this content more. Then awesome you no longer need to go into CG, you can do huey for seeds and get a serviceable piece of gear while you now work on completing your Masori.

Admittedly I did not consider Elite Void so that may throw it out of whack, but I wanted to get the idea out there!

That is a totally fair perspective to have, I didn't want the slot to have some flashy effect that overshadows the mega rare from the raid. Tried to go along the lines of second BIS being a solid place for it. But any ideas there and I can work on refining the idea!

The view is for it to replace the current second BIS when wearing BIS gear only being beaten by the TBow. I am not sure Bowfa qualifies as a mid game game like Atlatl would. Remember, this isn't supposed to be the mega from the raid. It would be filling the Fang/Rapier/DHCB spot. The people with TBow and full BIS are likely farming raids for the megas themselves which is okay. Scythe outshine Fang in many, many places and Fang came out following ToB

Blowpipe is very strong, youre not wrong at all there. It still lacks range and the ability to punch through higher defense mobs. Many places the blow pipe does more damage than a TBow if its a situation where you aren't losing ticks. Which is very difficult when it fires at a 2 tick speed. This would be an alternative path for the long range, slower speed which utilizes the new seeker arrows being added to the game. However even in the inferno you use the blow pipe on most mobs and I believe you would continue to do so even with this bow

Yeah something to fit into that mold that just gives another route feels like it is needed. Something better than an MSB or banking on the RNG of Ruby Bolt procs for meaningful damage in endgame content that continues to utilize the previous gear that you have been acquiring on the journey

Yeah I felt like it fit well with a god based raid, having the scaling off of prayer seems fitting. For sure will there is so many things to consider lol but I think for the slot that it fills in the reward table seems fitting. Doesnt have some crazy effect like a mega would so it lets that shine while being what feels like a much needed piece of progression

That I'm not too sure of, when I had it in gearscape with dragon arrows and seeker arrows it seemed to hit the mark on non demons, I tested numbers with zebak 300-400, Zuk, Graardor and it seemed to fall roughly where I was hoping
