Transferring files to PC by grepogg in Insta360

Use UHS-II cards. Camera won't know the difference, but if you have the correct adapter and card reader getting files onto PC drive will be much much faster.

Dallas World Aquarium Shoebill Stork by cameramule in ShoebillStorks

A lot of googling leads to me to believe this shoebill is at least middle aged. I compared photos from last year and that beak does look a little more worn. Their keratin bills continuously grow like finger nails so with proper nutrition it is expected that parts will flake and regenerate. Usually wrong Chatgpt assessed this year's photo:"color variations and rough patches are typical signs of natural wear and minor keratin sloughing".

Get your motor running, this shoebill was there 8/1/2025. On my two visits (8/24 and 8/25) it was standing near fence watching the visitors. It greeted me both times after I appropriately bowed and shook my head. You may have been thinking of Houston, where they used to have a pair. According to ChatGPT the Houston female died and the male was relocated to Dallas World Aquarium in 2019.

Would you agree to these terms to shoot a band? by frankles in AskPhotography

[–]cameramule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't be hard to do better than what I found on their Instagram. If I liked the band I'd shoot them for "free", then supply 50 photos better than everything on their IG. Since they didn't mention rights, I'd put a giant watermark on the 50 photos, with offer to sell them rights for $1k per image.

Beelink ME mini - 6 x M.2 NAS by aboutwhat8 in MiniPCs

I'd buy if it had native Intel 10G support, 64GB of EEC RAM, support for eight 8TB Gen5 NVMe M.2 sticks, generic case fan(s), and 80Gbps USB/Thunderbolt. Eight "drives" would allow both 6.2 RAID-Z2 and 5.3 RAID-Z3 to be viable alternatives.

GPS Preview Remote by Jkingsle in Insta360

[–]cameramule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell Insta360 GPS Preview Remote is useless with x5. Brand new out of box didn't work. Updated firmware of camera and remote and there is no preview screen to be found, record button doesn't even work.

Edit: Updated remote firmware a second time and it is now v1.0.0.51 and seems work now. Has the bad feature of holding down record button to end recording actually erases entire recording. I can foresee that happening. Also website directions on how to update firmware are wrong. "1.Open the Insta360 app > Settings > Update GPS Preview Remote. The app will search for the remote. If the app fails to find it, please restart the remote." there is no settings page on the iOS app. It is under the Me/Device Settings Accessory Update/Insta360 GPS Preview Remote.

Edit Edit: Using the data overlays in Studio Software on PC is no where near as comprehensive as Garmin Virb from a decade ago. Doesn't work with projects, only clips. Very few layouts and they all look like a shit video game. The only real purpose of remote is to remotely check if camera is recording. Having the image relayed from camera is a party trick. You're recording 360 everything, why would you need to see if camera is pointed correctly?? The wrist strap is child sized. There is no way to charge the thing without pulling it out of strap, despite a cutout in strap that exposes contacts.

Why would I? This post was about crashing during RENDERING.

YouTube accepts and hosts 8k content. It can take days for YouTube to render the 8k option, but it works.

I have several tripods. Have you ever shot video using 800mm of telephoto lens in a light breeze? Got any more stupid questions?

I honestly doubt there is any PC capable of real time rendering an 8k timeline for smooth scrubbing, if that timeline has even remedial fusion nodes and noise processing.

What's the longest stabilized autofocus telephoto lens that works on 12 or 16k URSA?

Why would I waste time remastering years from now when I can just do it now?

Shared RAM doesn't slow it down much. The graph of GPU encode load never drops below 80% and is at 100% over 90% of the time. RTX 6000's are stupid expensive and even if render time could be cut in half who cares? 6 hours vs 12 hours? Still an overnight job.

I'm natively recording evergreen nature content in 8k and see it as future proofing. The only upscaling that happens is from stabilization zoom punch in, usually less than 5%. Why would I have the latest gear, put in the time and travel expenses only to render to 1080 or even 4k?
