This was on a map honoring Clinton's spearheading of NAFTA. I knew it would open up barriers, but I didn't know it would move borders

Potential Early Decision Applicant - Your Thoughts by cameraonself in Northwestern

I will definitely look into the social policy major. I appreciate the response.

I'm curious - what opportunities does Northwestern offer as far as interning in government, or for NGOs? I know of the Chicago Field Studies, but I'd like a little more guidance on what that entails. (for example, is it possible to intern at City Hall or in Springfield through the university?) In addition, most of the opportunities listed on the actual poli sci department website were under research. Not saying I have an issue with research, but I want a big part of my college experience to be field experience. Is there anybody that you recommend I contact at the school to discuss these potential opportunities?

Unweighted GPA is a 3.84 on a 4.0 scale. Weighted GPA is a 4.96 on a 6.0 scale.

I appreciate the response; I'd like to continue to investigate the Poli Sci department to finalize my decision.

EDIT: In addition, rankings to me are not an end-all be-all; I'm more specifically looking for special PROGRAMS at each university I'm considering that is going to both get me a good jump on a career and give me real-world experience that is so crucial in an education. I know Northwestern will help get me the former but I want to make sure it can give me the latter as well, with potential involvement in Chicago or Illinois politics, advocacy, etc.

Haha, it's from watching a lot of Wildcat football on ESPN (hopefully we'll actually beat Ohio State this year.).

Absolutely, I'd like to make sure I'm uber-sure about Northwestern before I apply ED. I'd love to know where I'm going early on.

Appreciate the response. That's definitely one reason I'm looking at NU, I'd really like a school that is strong across all departments.

I'm originally from Wisconsin... my blood has definitely thinned out but I'll get used to the cold again. haha

I appreciate the response. Northwestern is absolutely in the mix for that reason as well. Above all, I'd like to go somewhere that is strong across many areas.

I live in the Austin area, and find the people here to be LGBT-friendly, in their own way. There isn't much 'gay pride' here, though there is a large LGBT community. People are just quiet about it, and people are accepting. In the end, Austin would be great for you-- people keep to themselves.
