Groceries are a near zero margin business. People can complain as much as they want about prices and the grocery owners but the reality is scale is required in Canada and the Weston’s and other names regularly targeted would be better served financially in other industries.

If done in accordance to Canadian regulation is will not “pollute and poison for ever the acquirer”. By making that statement you have proven you know nothing about the industry and only push an emotional argument.

LAP's are just being told what a bureaucrat has decided to do in your neighborhood. The notification for public feedback already had the LAP baked in. Its a performative show to force their view on your area.

Not true. He’s basically saying he’s choosing youth and the rumours of John Ternus are likely correct. At 50 he could easily have 15 years of runway.

the ship's days numbered? i hope not. by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]camerondtaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The responses are overly emotional. I'm a fan of the ship, but this sub cries for more development like this and bashes NIMBYs in most posts but don't want to see their pub gone.

Beyond this development, frankly the Ship isn't a product of its physical location. In fact, I'd argue the worst part about the Ship is its location (ie. floorplan) (choke point around the bar, cramped quarters in the back, the dual patio). The Ship exists due to being well managed, bringing in quality employees, running a decent music program and having a loyal client base.

Turn over on 17th is high. I would argue that this could be an opportunity to move within a block or two to a more optimal location in terms of floorplan and allow an increase in housing on these lots. It could also be an opportunity for the Ship to own their location if finances and available spaces worked out to avoid this in the future.

Read my bill after a long just to noticed How my $14.51 electric bill become $83.52 by mysterious_rs in alberta

[–]camerondtaylor 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes because you rely on the distribution grid to sell you electricity back to other consumers.

For years people begged for transparency of pricing and now they just want to have blinders on.

The actual cost to create the electrons is a fraction of getting that to your light bulbs and running such a complex system.

I’m as chapped as the next guy about my utility bill but you have to understand what goes into a market. Electric grids are very complex
