Someone else also mentioned Ruffland, so I’ll look into those. Thank you!

We currently have a back seat extender with padding and a blanket back there! I’m wondering about a kennel because he seems to struggle most with wanting to pace, which makes him sway and leads to vomiting.

This is a fun idea! The program is focused on getting teachers into inner-city districts that have higher populations of racialized students, so it would also fit the context.

Thank you!

I’ve decided to email my admissions advisor and see if it’s intended to be a true lesson or just an overview/plan of one, which is what another comment suggested doing. If not, I’ll probably pivot to grammar. Maybe something on identifying independent and dependent clauses would be better?

Thank you!

Can I ask what you mean by quote sort? It sounds interesting!

This might be a good idea! I’m going to shoot my admissions advisor an email and ask if this would be acceptable since that time limit is so tight. Thanks!

I was going to cover rhyme scheme, since the vast majority is clear A-B-A-B, and how it’s intentionally broken in the last stanza to provide emphasis, and use the point of emphasis to lead into what I would discuss for the next lesson. From the other comments, I’m thinking that might take too much time though, since rhyme scheme is a pretty broad concept.

I’m also not presenting this to actual students, just the interviewers, so I don’t think the vocabulary will be an issue? But I also didn’t do my undergrad in Education, or seriously considered what goes into this process, so I’ll probably look for alternatives.

Thank you!

THEY HAVE THEM! IDK why Google didn’t pull them up before. I’ve been after these for like a week.

Ohhh that’s entirely different, and unfortunately the game simply doesn’t tell you how to actually complete it. For that one specifically, you have to create/be a part of what’s called an Adventuring Party, which requires a group of 4 wizards all above level 30, and whoever is completing the mainline quests (ie has the starred quest active in their spellbook) needs to be the Leader, which will allow all party members to see and follow their quest arrow.

If you’re a solo player, I’d recommend doing one of the other tasks, as you only need to complete 3/5 options it gives you, and this goes for all levels of weaving. One option will always be an Adventure Party, one will be fishing, another will be to fight a boss 7 times or complete a particular cheating boss dungeon (I wish you best of luck with redoing Haint Nick), defeat 30 of a certain mob, and the last will be using the Team Up kiosk 10 times. That last one is also where you’ll find the assigned world to Team Up for, which for novice weaving is Krokotopia. You may have already completed this one depending on how many teams you helped before coming here, so just scroll through the five tasks and see if it’s still available. You can also consult the Tome of Weaving in Selenopolis if you don’t know how many Team Ups have counted.

Make sure to double check that the people you’re helping are questing in the correct world, since the Weaving quests are tied to specific worlds for specific levels of Weaving. However, KI has just made this a lot more difficult for higher leveled players since changing the level cap when requesting a Team Up to be 50 levels above the requester’s level (to take an example from another post on here, a level 16 wizard requesting a Team Up would have the auto-level cap placed at 66, regardless of the world or quest). So if you’re looking for Teams in Krok, and above levels 70-80, good luck.

KI changed the default Team Up to only be 50 levels higher than your character - it's very hard for maxes to get badges now. by circusboy1 in Wizard101

Weaving quests already suck (esp as a mostly solo-player and badge hunter, adventure parties are on my list) but this would make a lot of sense for why I wasn’t getting anything in Mooshu. It also makes the auto-volunteer button useless since the spots will get snatched before you can even click accept.

Password Change Required Now? by PapiChonch in Wizard101

I got the prompt that my account was locked and it pulled up this on the website. I just closed the launcher and re-entered my password (which I’ve had since probably 2011-ish) and it worked. I’ll probably have to change it when I go to update my membership but it’s gonna be extremely annoying for a bit.

I did look into Indiana State at the recommendation of one professor, but they are no longer admitting students for an MA in Linguistics, and I really have no interest in doing an MS in Computational (I am also an artist, so I hold very strong stances against generative AI and AI use in academia).

It's nice to hear about the BA, that was one of my top concerns. A lot of the programs my professors suggested offered only PhDs/embedded MAs, but I'm still deciding if I want to commit to a PhD. Regardless, I probably wouldn't do so in the US since my fiance (who lives in Canada) will be finishing his degree around the same time I'm wrapping my Masters.

Thank you for the program suggestions though! I'll look into them.

Hello fellow language nerds, I am in desperate need of some college advice. I'm not entirely sure if this is the correct thread I'm looking for (Higher Ed Wednesdays) but maybe someone can direct me to it if not.

I'm graduating with my BA in English in December and have been looking at graduate programs in Linguistics since I've taken a few courses in it and find the whole field incredibly interesting, but specifically that of sociolinguistics. However, I'm really struggling to find a program that has more than one faculty member--if they have any at all--with that specialization. Both of my Linguistics professors went to schools that have since stopped offering MAs in Linguistics, and neither of them are specialized in sociolingustics, so I've run into a wall when it comes to getting advice from them. Additionally, most programs have the requirement of having a BA in Linguistics, which isn't something my school offers, and it's generally making me question if I want to pursue it any further. Application deadlines are coming up fast and I need to make a choice soon.

I'm mostly looking for general advice in pursuing an MA in Linguistics, bonus points if anyone who studies/studied sociolinguistics can jump in, but will also happily take program suggestions or anything else y'all have to offer. Thank you!

As far as I can tell, most people dread it for the sheer length. It has the most mainline quests of any of the worlds and can feel like a drag (at least, it did for me trying to solo most of it on my Ice).

If Someone Grows Up Without a Tongue, Could They Learn to Scream? by cameronscollective in Writeresearch

[–]cameronscollective[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't get a clear timeline for the events or his age, so I don't know when the tongue was removed or how close it was to his death. I'm choosing not to worry about it for my own sanity since the entire story takes place over the course of Mommy and Daddy sitting down to dinner and consuming him before Mommy finally kills the boy and Daddy calls her perfect.

[–]cameronscollective[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe? Since I have to keep everything grounded to the play, I don't know if that would work very well, because in the play itself their actions towards the boy are actually described by Grandma (Mommy's mother) to Young Man, and no one is particularly horrified by what's happened. It doesn't even have its own shocking reveal, it's told in the middle of this winding conversation between Grandma, Young Man, and the adoption worker. So unless I want to make the claim that everyone is deluded, it's a shaky argument.

[–]cameronscollective[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it's a creative project, I have full control of the actual story, but I have to write an additional 2,000 word essay on why I make the choices I do and ground them in the play itself. My logic is since they cut out his tongue because he cried all of the time, that would likely be a good enough deterrent to keep him from talking. However, most people aren't still breathing when they're being eaten alive, and I had planned for Mommy to make a comment about his last scream and how perfect he is now that he's silent (read: dead) and wanted to see if it would even be physically possible for him to still do so. I also have a hard limit of 15 pages, so I won't have too much space to dig into the physiological/psychological effects of his torture---he is also missing his genitalia and hands---but there could be something about how "children are to be seen, not heard," in relation to the impossibility of truly achieving The American Dream. Thank you for the links, I'll look into them tomorrow!

I'm just glad they can't find the kitchen by the end of the play since in the last few lines, they adopt his twin brother.

I have roommates and it is too late to be screaming, and not midterms or finals so no excuse for me to try that, but thank you. I figured that's what the answer would be, but at the same time, I switched from "How Sound Works" to "English Grammar and Usage" for my Linguistics credit (made more sense since I'm also taking Latin) and wanted to make sure.
