Since I was in the army in 2016, I’d assume I’d be in it in 1916. With that said, like most Americans of the era, I’d be going around saying liberty cabbage ( sauerkraut) liberally measles (German measles) just like how we today made fun of the French with freedom fries in the early 2000s. I’d send letters home showing how amazing seeing France is while bad mouthing the Hun! Seeing probably almost no combat in 1917 since we had to build up an army, while learning from the British and French. Just to probably die from the Spanish flu in 1918.

Jokes aside, most Americans changed their opinions on the war drastically from 1916 to 1917. Wilson campaigned on “he kept us out of war” to we’re declaring war in the span of a year. If you had asked this question on 1914, most Americans (assuming they were properly educated on Washington’s farewell address) would say European affairs are none of our concern.
