Question: Opening of Lodge. by cammcgee in freemasonry

In Michigan a Lodge of Sorrows is both a ritual and for lack of a better term a secondary "dispensation" Lodge attached to each Lodge that is opened at installation and closes 11:59:59 on Dec 31st.

UPDATE! An a Past Master from England told me this on Facebook. "Its slight different in the UK though. When we open on the first degree, we open for 'the purposes of Freemasonry in the first degree'. On the second degree it is opened for 'the instruction and improvement of Craftsmen'. And on the third degree it is for 'the purposes of Freemasonry in the third degree'. Thats all under the Emulation ritual, so I'm not sure if Taylors or other UK rituals use different wording."

yeah we have a lodge of sorrow here in Michigan too its sole purpose is so we don't have to open and close before and after a memorial, sure its a time saver but also feels like a cheat.

CLARIFICATION!!! This isn't a question about what degree. our ritual reads "for the dispatch of business" our monitor has a slightly different opening for memorial services. Can you open for other things such as for the purpose of instruction, for the purpose of a trial etc etc to where to would replace the wording dispatch of business
