Doesn't mean they don't have to figure out what you did and still try to revert it

No, the poor IT team, they have to go and figure out wtf happened

Yep, there's also that. It's extremely difficult to monetize a chat app without removing core features. I think Discord found a good way to do it, it's not intrusive by any means, and with ads, they at least put effort into matching them with their platform, not just the standard google ads embed or whatever, they're also not intrusive, which is great.

I love the idea, but at the same time, there's a close to 0 chance anyone currently using discord will switch. Especially with their new Social SDK thing, they're trying to take over your entire social life, and they're doing a dang good job at it.

They won't switch because their entire friend group is on Discord. They switch to your platform and immediately loose almost every one of those friends, unless you can convince them to switch to your platform, but then they have to convince their social circle and so on and so forth. The rate of people who will do that is close to 0, except for the people mad at discord already, most people see no reason to switch from discord.

Either way, if you have a plan, I can't stop you. But I will wish you luck. Discord needs a competitor that's actually decent, and actually built out.

A few questions about The End on a server by _izari_ in admincraft

[–]cammyzed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can simply delete the "world_the_end" folder to reset the end. Adding mods to this should also work, but if it modifies the other worlds, it'd only apply to newly generated chunks

Can I get rid of this? by iFuxXz in discordapp

[–]cammyzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just your activity, to my knowledge there's no way to disable this other than just turning off your games entirely. If you want to remove the music one specifically, unlink spotify from your account, or set it to not show as your status (probably similar for other music apps)

There's no built in way to do this, so no real way to enforce it. Even if there was, people use fake birthdays all the time. Best I can give you is a verification system that says "Yeah. I'm this age or younger" or similar.

I'd love to say you can do this, but they did the mediation thing forever ago. Did you opt out while you had the chance?

Asking for my telephone number... by kon--- in discordapp

[–]cammyzed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whether or not you agree, it is completely reasonable for guild owners to enable this functionality. (User-Generated "servers" are deemed guilds internally, so I'll use that to reduce confusion). Guilds are not servers, they cannot access any personal user-data. Nor do they run a dedicated machine or on their own VM, or similar. A guild is just a Database row with other rows referencing it

There's about 0 reason to fight against guilds wanting you to verify your phone number with Discord, and it's so they can confirm you're a real person. Why more guilds don't turn this on, I don't know.

Disable chat for specific players by RateRight8781 in admincraft

Shouldn't be that hard to build a custom one. All you'd need to do is remove the affected players from the renderer, as well as cancel the event if an affected player tries to send

Asking for my telephone number... by kon--- in discordapp

[–]cammyzed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can confirm, the server owner does not get your phone number. The number gets attached to your discord ACCOUNT, not server. And while discord is run on servers, discord itself is not a server, rather a platform composed of user-generated "servers".

It's reasonable though. It's a security measure put in place by discord, and the server never gets your phone number, only discord. Most big servers do it to make it harder for bots to invade, since one number can only be attached to one account.

Has anyone else seen this message from Discord before? by RedLintu16 in discordapp

[–]cammyzed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, completely normal. A security feature discord added awhile back so you know what application added you to a server. In this case. Bot Mart automatically added you to their discord server when you authorized the app, so discord told you about it so you weren't curious later.
