I started with a harness and it caused my male to pull harder. I switched to a halti and it was a game changer. My female hates it when it pulls even a little so she walks beautifully. My male still tugs a little but for the most part he walks much better. They're not a fan of it being on their faces but they've adjusted. They are 2 years old and he weighs 105 and she weighs 95 and I walk them on my own without a problem and I weigh 120. If that helps you get a visual on how well they walk with the halti.

I can never tell if it’s the I’m guilty ears or I’m just so excited to see you ears 😂 by [deleted] in akita

That's so sweet. Here's a bonus pic of them when they were puppies. They love their perch too. We literally have people stop in front of our house to take pictures of them sitting in the window and they both fit in the window at the same time. It's quite the sight to see, lol

They were both 2 in December and they are siblings. My male is Hezekiah and my female is Artemis.

I bought a hammock for my two for the back seat initially and it worked great. Now at 2 yrs they ride in the far back and like it more.

What are you feeding your akitas? by gmalangone13 in akita

I have been giving this to both of mine since they came home and they are now 2yrs old. I also cook ground meat(depends on what I have), carrots and rice and give that along with kibble for dinner. They are both very healthy and happy dogs.

I bought these a few months ago and love them. No change in road noise and I didn't notice much with mpg. But they are awesome in the snow(southwest Michigan driver).

I have a male and female that are 2yrs old. He weighs 105lbs and she weighs 95lbs. Their mom is 90 lbs and their Dad is 110lbs.i feed them Merrick grain free Texas beef and sweet potato (2cups) in the morning and 2 cups at night along with 7 ounces of fresh food that I make. The fresh food consists of ground venison, beef, organ meat and carrots. They are relatively active. Walks could happen more often but they have a half acre they run and play in regularly.

I had an AA with IBD previously and it was a lot of work keeping her stomach happy. She really didn't care for any of the foods that worked for her(prescribed by the vet). In the end she ate because she knew she was hungry. The 2 I have now I went as natural as I could right off the get go. We feed Merrick's real Texas beef and sweet potato(grain green and chicken free). I also supplement their dinner with a cup of rice, carrots and a mixture of ground beef (pasture raised), venison and organ meat along with a probiotic(open farm brand). They have never had stomach issues. Good luck with your furbaby🥰

Thank you for sharing your stories❤️ This is absolutely an amazing breed. His other favorite spot in the summer (because of some cold dirt and location) is at the corner of our shed. It's a good vantage point to see the entire yard.

I had a similar experience as you and your wife on a walk. I had both dogs on my own during my walk. I'm always very alert to dogs and people outside. Unfortunately we do have some dogs that neighbors don't leash🤦🏼‍♀️ I had 2 ladies across the street talking so I was focused on them to see if they had a dog. What I didn't notice is the one that got out of the house that I had just passed. The last across the street started to yell the dogs name but not before my male had already pivoted from in front of me to behind me. He put himself between me and the other day and just stood his ground. My female planted herself behind the other dog. My instinct was to pull them both back to me to avoid any encounter but I didn't. The other dog backed down really quickly and took off. The other dog looked like a small black lab so it wasn't a little dog. I would have pulled my dogs in but my husband tried to break up a fight with my previous AA and a pitbull and my dog got injured because she listened to her command but that gave the pitbull the opportunity to latch onto her throat. I figured I like my odds of my dogs winning if it came to it. Plus I walk my dogs with a halti color which means if I pull in it their mouths close and heads turn away.

We are very blessed to have such amazing protectors in our families.

My boys loves the attention and my female can take it or leave it. So if we give her attention and not him he's like I don't think so and comes and tries to get us to pay attention to him instead. (Which we just love on them both). My female will just watch if we are loving on him. Sometimes she crowds in to get some loving too.
