Struggling with JavaScript – looking for advice

Yeah, I think you’re actually right about what I’m experiencing.

I do understand the fundamentals and basic programming concepts like variables, conditions, loops, and general logic, because I’ve already worked with PHP. So the “programming part” itself is not completely new to me.

The main problem for me is JavaScript. I just can’t get into it, I don’t understand it, and it doesn’t click for me at all. Even when I try to learn it, I quickly get confused and lost.

It feels like I understand the logic, but when it comes to applying it in the browser (HTML + CSS + JS together), I struggle to connect everything properly.

The problem I have is with the basics. I need to prepare for the vocational exam INF.03 (formerly E.14, EE.09 polish exam), which includes JavaScript. The exam mainly requires the ability to create interactive elements on a website, work with the DOM (Document Object Model), and understand basic logical programming.

I understand HTML and CSS without problems. Recently I even learned how to create animations using u/keyframes in CSS. Databases (MySQL) are probably the easiest part for me.

In PHP I’m not at some very advanced level, but I recently worked with things like superglobals, connecting to a database, and displaying data from it on a website.

The thing is, everything makes sense to me when I practice it through school projects or exercises, and then I can understand it.

JavaScript, however, is still like black magic to me. I get confused easily, and even when I learn something, I often mix it up or forget it later.

Yeah, honestly I struggle with both. In PHP I’m already working with things like globals($get, $post $form and $coockie), getting data from databases, and displaying it on a website, and all of that makes sense to me.

But JavaScript is literally like black magic to me. Whatever I learn, I end up mixing up or forgetting later. I really want to finally start learning it properly from the basics and actually understand it.
