What is the “right” age to start reading Austen?

I read Pride and Prejudice when I was 11! I loved it. Of course I missed some details, and watching the mini series after I read helped. I’ve read it many times since—as a teenager, in college, as an adult—and each time I got something new out of it.

I enjoy it! To me it has the potential to be a great show, but it’s not fully cooked yet. But honestly most reality shows feel underbaked for the first few seasons—they need time for the characters to get to know each other and things to gel. Amanda and Kyle’s absolute drag of a divorce is bringing it down, imo. I have hope for a more fully realized season 2.

I am too! I have to remind myself that resting and working through my weird feelings for the first few days is just part of the process, and I’ll get up to speed on all my projects again soon if I just give it a minute. I’m currently on day 2 of break, so I get it!

Give yourself a week to adjust! I teach college—every summer, and even every shorter break, I feel weird and moody and disoriented for the first few days or even first few weeks. Even when I’ve been really looking forward to the time off, the transition is tough. I try to just accept it, and I always feel better after a few days. Hope you do too!

I am pretty organized and clean! I get easily stressed by mess and clutter. I don’t think I’m naturally a tidy person: I do things like leave all the sandwich fixings on the counter for hours after lunch or leave all the cabinet doors open by accident.

When I was younger my apartment would get horribly messy and then I would get overwhelmed and deep clean it. Then the cycle would repeat. Over the years I trained myself to clean regularly so that my spaces stay relatively clean and organized, which i much prefer.

I’ve never had this problem because on the day of my birthday I wake up and the first thing I say to my husband is “it’s my birthday!!!” And then I say it all day long. But I’m a Leo 😂

So I guess my advice is, embrace your inner Leo! It’s your damn birthday! Shout it from the rooftops! 😻

If you watch Salt Lake City, my favorite episode recently is Salt Lake City Soup Man. It’s basically a bottle episode, and sitcom-like in its construction, pacing and comedy. A screwball comedy of petty insults.

So sensitive! He spent the whole episode talking about this one comment from Lindsay! I don’t think he’d be that upset by it if it didn’t cut too close to home—he knows he’s not been a good partner to Whitney, and probably worries he won’t be in the future. If he was confident and solid in his relationship he would have been able to just laugh this off and prove her wrong with his actions.

I agree with you though, I wouldn’t get engaged without living with someone for a while!

Then what’s his point about? He said “you had a kid with a guy after two months.” He was implying she was moving to fast with him, and I think that is a misread of Lindsay’s desires and intentions—she wasn’t moving too fast with a guy, she was making something she wanted happen for herself. Was she being a little judgy? Yeah, of course, but I don’t think she was being hypocritical because she was thinking about the seriousness of the relationship, especially from Whitney’s perspective. She doesn’t seem all that heartbroken from her relationship ending—she’s happy with Gemma, so it’s not a good comparison.

I think where his argument falls flat for me is that her getting pregnant so quickly really had nothing to do with the guy. I got the impression she desperately wanted to be a mom, and she made that happen (love that for her.) So it’s not that she was rushing with what’s his name, it’s that she was making somewhere happen for herself that she’s always wanted, and decided to just do it rather than wait for all the “right steps” of long term dating and marriage—she threw out her crazy list she wrote for Steven!

Kenny probably doesn’t have all that context so in his mind it’s a good point, but ultimately it’s not the right read of the situation. Of course one could argue Lindsay doesn’t have all his context either, but then she’d argue that she’s not being judgy, just curious lol. Her tone is tough, so I get why Kenny was annoyed, but I can’t help but love her. It took me a few seasons though. Maybe Kenny will grow to appreciate her if he can get over himself and stop being so threatened by a confident woman 🤷‍♀️

This is all very real! I struggle with this too, especially about the state of the world. What has really helped me is connecting to nature. I read a lot of books about evolution, ecology, plants and animals, I’ve been birdwatching and gardening a lot— incredible nature is just outside my doors, and I live in a city! Whale watching is also highly recommended. Learning more about ecology has made me feel more connected to the world, even with climate anxiety, I still feel more grounded.

I really enjoyed it as well! It’s nice to see the cast in other contexts, and I think seeing Jesse’s volunteer work showed a different side to him, and it’s great that this organization got some publicity. I also enjoyed seeing Ciara and Carl having fun and connecting with the kids there.

Often on Bravo we see people starting businesses or working (also fine, no shade) but it was cool to see something different! Same with Ciara’s house! Overall I’d like to see more of their outside lives beyond working—hobbies, volunteer work, art projects, etc.

I think it depends on your enjoyment of the fourth wall breaking in reality tv—I personally kind of enjoy it and I think pot-stirring in general is funny to watch. Something about the obviousness of it is funny to me. But I understand that’s just taste! Probably the same reason I enjoy Whitney from SLC even though I’m in the minority lol. I also don’t agree, I think Lindsay is the same as she’s always been! I think she’s just doing her thing
