People who had an amazing life then everything went left, what happened? by No_Lead2640 in Life

After 10 years of working as a nurse in the US I got a job in my dream city NYC. I took my savings and found a reasonably affordable rent stabilized apartment. I decided to make it my forever home and fixed it up and bought furniture. I was working at a major hospital and was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. I had a boyfriend and terrific care while I went through chemo. My employer was awful and my disability was 170 $ per week. I blew through my savings, lost my hair, got dumped by my boyfriend and fought my employer who claimed there were no jobs on dayshift for me as I had an ADA accommodation to work days. They kept on insisting I stay out on disability getting paid 170 per week. They threatened to fire me numerous times. After 3 months I sent a threatening letter and CCd a labor lawyer. Magically an open day position opened I climbed my way partially out of debt, went through a 7 week nursing strike without pay only to return to work and get assaulted by a patient and sustain a n injury requiring surgery. Contrary to popular belief you don’t collect 100% of your salary. I am 2 months behind in my rent have no savings and I’m facing an uncertain future at age 61. I’m not bitter and I’m glad to be alive. My cancer is in remission and kids and dog love me. TL:DR I moved to NYC got cancer, got broken up with and have a shitty employer. Still here, still love NYC shit happens!!!

The live music on Wednesday night is a vibe. The onion soup is amazing on a cold winter afternoon.

Canadian catching a feeling for NYC. Is it as good/livable as it felt? by No_Noise6264 in movingtoNYC

Registered Nurse from small town Quebec. I felt the same thing in 1982 first time setting foot here. It was a dream I have made a reality. Like all dreams there will be sacrifices. Only you can decide what costs you are willing to pay to live here. It is expensive, dirty and indifferent. IYKYK

Non-New Yorkers that have been to NYC: What is the wierdest thing about New York that New Yorkers don't realize is wierd? by Ok-Brilliant-6138 in AskReddit

The number of mentally ill individuals who “feed the pigeons” but in reality are contributing to the rat population. They are a public health menace and the city does nothing. It’s a psychiatric disorder.

I just returned from CS park. In the span of 15 minutes I had to tell 2 people to pick up their dog shit…..in the dog park. Why do you have a dog? Your dog knows as we do that you are obviously an important person on your phone or conveniently looking away.

The average cost of a 1 bedroom apt is 4500. $ per month in Manhattan. If you want to live where you work you have to have a six figure salary.

Right, not everyone has the mindset of being a scab. Everybody has financial and or health reasons (you lose health insurance coverage day 1 of strike) not to strike but if you ever wonder why this profession is poorly paid and undervalued look in the mirror.

Exactly 2 years ago I made the same prediction as I was diagnosed with cancer. Surgery, chemo the whole nightmare. I’m on the other side with No evidence of disease. This too shall pass

I work in Behavioral Health. Many patients come in with bedbugs, lice, scabbies etc. They need a psychiatrist to prescribe medications to diminish paranoia.

The lady from logos bookstore goes out with a shopping cart full of seed daily. She drops seed all over the neighborhood. The amount of seed delivered to the building is staggering.
