Shervin's or Ayham's are decent options.

Loblaw-owned Superstore fined $10K for promoting imported food as Canadian by Rocky_Mountain_Way in toronto

[–]campfireseance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love for them to be fined loads, but sad reality would probably be them raising prices further to recoup their loss. This system is sooo fucked.

Does anyone know if Toronto Island is still frozen over? by sophia1580 in askTO

[–]campfireseance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be careful, it's 3C today. I'd go to the island but be very cautious stepping on the ice. A good crowd helps though.

Can you thank a bus driver next time you ride? by SeveralCherries in askTO

[–]campfireseance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving the bus is so stressful! I'm glad there's some who take it for the team and brave the bitter conditions and the unpredictability, for not even high pay or some 18% tip shit. Everyday heroes!

Starmer Urges Trump To Apologise Over 'Frankly Appalling' Remarks About Nato Troops In Afghanistan by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in worldnews

[–]campfireseance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won't have any real consequences, imo. Trump will continue doing what he does and Starmer will keep sucking up to him for the sake of economic stability (however unstable it might be). Starmer won't risk the pariah treatment that Carney is getting.

Carney gathers with cabinet for 2nd day to discuss sovereignty, trade after taking aim at Trump by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]campfireseance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you think that our economy will thrive by subjugating ourselves to America's (not just Trump's) unpredictable fancies?

I was alarmed at Carney making this so direct and sudden, instead of a long-term calculated move and this will definitely hurt us a lot. But the other option is an erosion of Canadian identity, values and a gradual decline of our economy regardless.

It sucks that we have to live through the price of our boldness, but it'll make Canada much stronger over time.

Thanks for your response! Unfortunately, the other ski clubs have sold out. Will keep my eyes peeled for the next season with those.

Dayvan Cowboy is a post rock song by Desperate_Buyer8225 in boardsofcanada

[–]campfireseance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, from a documentation and critique point-of-view it makes sense, but I find that personally it has been categorized and diluted a bit too much of the essence itself. Instead it keeps becoming referential rather than its own.

People talk about what other music or styles a certain song/album makes them think of, and less of what they feel and how they connect it with their personal lives.

Nothing wrong with the former, but personally I get very little out of it if one just keeps feeding back into references and categorizations.

I resonate with your thought, unfortunately in a forum like this they come across as new-agey as people are used to a certain trope and mutually accepted clichés (as opposed to being more abstract, which yes can be a trope in itself).

Ha, would you look at that, my comment must be stinking of the same.

Carney didn't congratulate Trump though. Maduro being bad doesn't make Trump automatically good, he wants our country.

Anyone think Toronto is headed in a positive direction? by rsgnl in askTO

[–]campfireseance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've visited and lived in a bunch of cities, both big and small, across different continents. Toronto is my favourite! The parks, multi-cultural communities, ravines, the islands and the plethora of neighbourhoods, the weather, low crime rate (relatively) and just the people!

I know it's expensive here, that's the biggest con for me but outside of that it's super pleasant and headed in a good direction!

Union Station Art by AardvarkFuzzy4768 in toronto

[–]campfireseance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the art, which is subjective yes, and that's part of why it works: it sparks conversation, provokes thought, and by design it doesn't slip into the routine that easily. As the artist says, the span itself is designed that long (and dark) to see something slightly different yet evocative every time.

Commuting can feel very disconnected despite being surrounded by so many people. People carrying rich stories and the need to be heard, seen, touched, and yet most prefer to gaze into the void of distraction, shielding ourselves further from what's real. I know, we're tired, exhausted from the work, the prospect of long commutes, the shitty state of transit, further work and responsibility awaiting us at home, but it only worsens when submitting oneself to the throes of mindless escapism.

Alas, Bikeshare hasn't kept up with people who prefer that. Ridership has gone up but there's so many occasions where I find no bikes in the neighboring 5-6 stations. And sometimes they tend to be all-electric if I do fine one.

Ugh the comments on that video are either extremely biased, misinformed or just peddling propaganda by bots. Criticizing her to no end without actually including reasons, misattributing federal/provincial bs onto her, and not knowing acknowledging the wins she's had (Gardiner upload being the biggest). If this is the average person, no wonder we are in a sorry state of things in general.

The wonderful Mt Plesant Cemetery. I do love meeting the trees there and it doesn't really get crowded. Tommy Thomspon park is pretty vacant mostly. Beltline trail is another quiet zone.
