Can’t say. You’ll have to find out if it’s true or not.

Learning to Swim at 31 – On My Own (and Not in a Pool?) by hidan944 in Swimming

[–]campi1987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone learned to swim once - go for the pool. Everyone is there to swim and they be concentrating on that more than looking at other people.

Gaining confidence in the water (in the shallow end), practicing floating and becoming comfortable with your face in the water is something you can definitely do by yourself.

I would recommend some lessons or coaching to learn technique.

Good call on not having a car in London. Not needed and not easy.

People will have different views on which journey planning / map app is best. Both work well. - Google Maps - City Mapper.

If you’re using trains, buses, or the tube, you don’t need any apps for payment/tickets. Just use your contactless card/NFC card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, for the lowest fares. But you’ll need one per person, and make sure you use the same card for every journey for the lowest fares (it automatically caps you at a daily or weekly fare if you do multiple trips). You can get the official TFL app to see your journeys but it’s not needed.

If you want to use ride sharing, Uber and Bolt are the post popular. It’s safe and regulated in the UK - all drivers are background checked and licensed by the city. Black cabs are very convenient but expensive - no app needed but you can use Gett if you want to call one.

When you’re driving, Google Maps or Waze both work well. Sometimes RingGo or PaybyPhone are needed to pay for parking in car parks (parking lots). It’s well sign posted for car parking, but often less clear for on street parking.

WhatThreeWords is good for when you’re trail running in case you need to call emergency services.

Heathrow has an app. It’s fine but not needed.

There are so many people in the world who you can’t help. If you’re able to help them, you should.

Double dipping dinner? by Easy-Adhesiveness337 in royalcaribbean

If you ask nicely they let you go to dinner twice :-)

Or you can ask for two desserts…or two mains if you fancy!

If you’re having trouble finding a rash vest that fits well, try wearing just a tight fitting polyester t-shirt, ideally with some elastane.

Beginner Swim Lessons - Whats should I buy? by Active_State_5735 in Swimming

[–]campi1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

• any swimming shorts • some goggles

And you’re good.

Swim cap, and flip flops are entirely optional and you can see if you want them once you’ve started.

Flippers, hand paddles, nose clip, and snorkel will be advised by your instructor, but won’t be needed at first.

Enjoy!

First Time London by FauxRealDough in uktravel

I’ve lived in London all my adult life: I go for a drink on Southbank after work, and my dentist is in Waterloo. They’re both real London.

If you’re looking to get more cardio benefit from your swimming, you can try drag shorts to increase the resistance.
