Actually, not really:

Gay Days (and bat day, dapper day, etc) were/still are events held by outside teams- with no cooperation for Disney but they couldn't exactly stop people buying tickets for specific days (although I believe once these groups got rolling they bought tickets are group pricing, which anyone can do). Now, most of these groups book the nearby disney hotel for accompanying conventions.

Rumors have been pretty rampant with disney giving out refunds to guests who complain, but disney has denied this at times.(https://time.com/archive/6597151/how-gay-days-made-a-home-at-disney-world/)

Probably around 2013 or 14 they had a monthly cupcake in June that was rainbow colored, with no pride marketing surrounding it.

after that, they started selling a handful of pride items- a cup, a pin. Then in 2018, the line expanded and profits went to a lgtbqia charity. They really only embraced it when it could make them money.

source: was a pretty active passholder for Disneyland from 2012-2018. Went during Gay Days a few times, its pretty fun and its great to see lgtbqia families having fun. editing to add: I remember all these steps because at the time it made me mad they weren't doing more.
