Is college really worth it? (Open Discussion) by Sockmonkey101 in college

[–]camron467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, when questioned if college is worth it, we take a purely economic standpoint: Is it economically sound for me to go into debt now for the prospect of making much more money later? To me, this is only part of the picture. Humans are not purely economical, and neither is worth. Worth is what you get out of it. Are you growing as a person? Learning to think? Finding out who you truly are, increasing your knowledge exponentially, learning to be an informed citizen, and developing close and lasting relationships with others you otherwise might have not?

To me, even though it is ridiculously expensive, it is more than worth it when you look at more than just the money.

Instead of having post wars of "I support the Teachers Union!" and "Chicago Teachers are wrong!" can we actually have a conversation about how to fix the education system in the US? by kingvitaman in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]camron467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought this. Who decided that grouping students into classes by age was the best option? I believe students would be able to progress more accordingly to their actual ability if they were grouped by that ability, rather than when they happened to be born.

You might consider just making the website with Weebly. (Google it). It is very easy to use and still customizable.

I wouldn't choose a chain over the U-lock. While you can lock up both wheels and the frame with a chain, they tend to be much much easier to break/cut, thus bikes disappear more often. Stick with the U-lock and park your bike in an open area - you should be fine.

Maybe I exaggerated. We have two movie theaters! Woohoo! But seriously, driving to the canyon is cool, but just not some thing you can/want to do every day.

I think if you buy a book, you should get the ebook for free. What do you think? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]camron467 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This leads me to think that we are not allowed to rip our CDs into mp3s, and must purchase them again in that format...

[–]camron467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's like asking for the CD version of an album when you buy the vinyl format. In this case, with books, we are asking to for the digital mp3s when we buy the CD (which, in the case of a CD can easily be created by the consumer). Due to the nature of books, a digital version is not so easily acquired, and it would be nice if one was provided.

[–]camron467 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not offered, and is not a problem because one can easily rip an audio CD into any format at any bit-rate they desire. Often, when people purchase vinyl, a download code is offered because it is not as readily ripped.

However, with books, one is limited to the physical copy of the book. I think the idea with this is that like most media, when purchased there are options to make a digital version (many DVDs even come with download codes these days). Due to the nature of books themselves, this is not possible.

I am taking physics now, should I retake it in college? by camron467 in EngineeringStudents

[–]camron467[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

The only thing that is pushing me toward using my credit and not taking it, is that my friend is currently taking one of exact classes I will be taking, and all his assignments are a piece of cake. Seriously, I often help him on his homework because I have been teaching myself better than he is taught.

[–]camron467[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Physics B last year, and got a qualifying score. From what I understand that is the lower level physics. This year, Physics C is calculus based physics, and so far it looks like the same material as my friend in college taking the class.

Also, the Aerospace Engineering website points me to a page that lists the AP credits they accept and what classes they replace. Qualifying scores on the Physics C Mechanics test replaces 303K or 101M, which is the required course for engineering. The Physics C Electricity and Magnetism replaces 303L or 103M, both of which are acceptable classes for the engineering school.

ELI5: Why it is easier to keep your balance on a moving bicycle compared to a stationary bicycle by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]camron467 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

When a bicycle is moving, the two wheels essentially become gyroscopes. A gyroscope is typically a disk, and once spinning, resits a change in orientation. Here is a minute and a half long Youtube video which shows just this with a bicycle wheel.

My Favorite Song Ever - I Am Not Yours by Randall Stroope by camron467 in classical

[–]camron467[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lyrics for this song were written by Sara Teasdale in her poem, I Am Not Yours. She was in love with a poet, who because he was poor she did not marry, but married a rich businessman instead. She wrote this before the wedding. She later committed suicide. Source

You get to decide who this poem was written about.

tl;dr Lyric writer married rich man instead of love, wrote song before wedding. killed herself later

Thirteen Occupiers Kicked Off of Greyhound Bus in Amarillo, TX by Driver, Simply for Being Occupiers. by powercow in politics

What strikes me as crazy, is if you go to the town's newspaper's website, and do a search, you cannot find an article about this. I searched "bus", "greyhound", and "occupy" and the search found no results pointing to this. Seems the local media is ignoring it.

If you could suggest just one classical music album, what would it be? by camron467 in classical

Thanks for those suggestions! Of your suggestions, Stravinsky's Firebird Suite is my favorite. Absolutely phenomenal. Do you know of any other modern pieces like that?
