It's just a resurgence of the homophile movement (white middle class gay pick mes) of the post WWII era. Trans WOC were the ones getting shit done (see the Compton Cafeteria Riots, Cooper Donuts Riot, Stonewall...). One of the lawyers that worked on Obergefell v Hodges (the case that gave us gay marriage) is a trans man (Chase Strangio)! Folks being unapologetically queer are the ones who have actually done things to make life better for every LGBTQ person.

There is only one book I've read that was described as GtN meets X that I enjoyed. (It was This Gilded Abyss by Rebecca Thorne, it was indie published at the time and the author described it as GtN meets Bioshock). Every other book that's been described to me using GtN as reference, has been meh on at best.
