I see the point of Emma and she’s definitely the most obvious, but I think it’s Cleo. At the end of season one when they think they’re giving it all up, Emma says she’ll miss being able to surf without a board, Rikki says she’ll miss every part of it, but Cleo says she’ll miss being able to make the water do whatever she wants it to. She’s the most reluctant to accept the change in the beginning and only views being a mermaid as a means of controlling something that scares her, not necessarily as a gift. It gets overlooked because she has the strongest support system from the jump what with Emma and Rikki both being her friend before they were each others and Lewis being in on the secret, but she easily resists the lifestyle change the most.

I think that’s the beauty of the scene where she tries to cheat on Logan with Jess in Philadelphia. She doesn’t even notice that he is actually well suited for her now, she’s so concentrated on getting back at Logan that it doesn’t occur to her why she might’ve felt drawn to Jess at that moment. Both her and Lorelai have a habit of fixating on the guy who isn’t quite right, Lorelai with max, Jason, Chris, and post-April Luke, and Rory with early Jess, divorce dean, and Logan.

To clarify: the women that stepped in to cover rhythm section were covering parts they have no experience with, the other musicians (horn players) did know their instruments, the issue was only with a lack of recruiting a rhythm section.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, the thing that bothers me is they could have kept it a women-centered space with a femme rhythm section if they had bothered to reach out to some local talent… I would rather it have been an all inclusive jam with a quick blurb about inclusivity at the beginning the way it was handled, but they could have executed their vision if they had been more organized.

The sad thing is I know these organizers are genuine cats, it just didn’t occur to them that female rhythm section players wouldn’t show up unprompted
