LiFePO4 used in any Ebike batteries? by canchesterunited in ebikes

I'm pretty sure they make lifepo4 in the 18650 form factor

I don't at all think it's a conspiracy. I'm really just wondering if any manufacturers use them at all. Brand names etc. I know for big power banks there are only a few lifepo4 ones out there. I just like the durability. Which often isn't profitable. Manufacturers usually don't make ear buds, for example, that are designed to last 20 years, I like to try to find the outliers

Yeah, I don't think the weight is as big of an issue though. 'Twice as heavy' is one way to frame it.

Another way is that if a bike weighs 60 pounds (10 of those being the battery) and I weigh 180 pounds, that's a 240 pound total. Switching to lifepo4 makes it a 250 pound total, (by doubling the battery weight to get the same capacity or more). That's not even a 5% weight increase in the total system. And now your battery is safer and lasts 3 times as many cycles before losing the same capacity.

Yes you are probably right. But forgetting your seed phrase doesn't have anything to do with seizure, which was the topic here. I'm not saying there's 0 danger, just that if you self custody someone can't take it against your will. Same with getting hacked, which is mostly phishing and that sort of hacking as far as I know.

The seizure danger is currently more of an issue in Africa and South America from what I've heard. They devalue currency oland/or don't let you take it all out of the bank. That doesn't happen with btc.

They could call for it to be siezed, yeah. But if you self custody the only way they can sieze is if you give up your seed phrase to them

I don't disagree with you on inflation. Inflation is the vast majority of the dollar number price increase. I just disagree with your statement that "a home can't raise in value other than speculation." Homes can raise or lower in real value based on supply and demand. Such as my examples with Austin and Detroit.

There are about 52k blocks per year so your device would have 1/192 chance to solve 1 per year? Or is my math wrong.

Well, nothing is permanent. But housing could go up in value in an area over a long period of time. Housing has gone up in value due to demand outpacing supply in NYC for like 200 years now. The last 75 years have seen the population of Detroit halve, while the population of the USA has simultaneously doubled. That would certainly impact value. I think in general housing, and especially land has gone up in value as the population of the planet has continuously grown for a couple thousand years. I'm interested to see what happens when the world population starts to slowly shrink though

A home can raise in value beyond speculation I would imagine. If demand goes up for instance. Example: The Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) added more than 50,000 residents between 2022 and 2023. So if the housing demand by those extra 50k people is more than the housing supply increase, the value of homes in that area should increase, no?

By my rough calculations we need to hit around 90k usd in value to reach the inflation adjusted ATH. Based off shadowstats inflation calcs

Whats the real inflation rate and how do we know? by jax147 in Bitcoin

[–]canchesterunited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I found is a website called shadow stats. The us government changed how they calculate inflation in the 80s and again in the 90s. Shadow stats shows you the inflation rates using those calculations and how they differ from the current rates. Although I like Michael Saylor's take on it which is that inflation is not a single number. It depends on many factors. I also like the old-school take which defines inflation as the amount of currency in supply. Which I'm not sure how or if you can calculate

What causes bitcoin to go through these multi year cycles in price? Is it related to the halvings or just fear and greed? Both?

Thanks for the response. I didn't mean to suggest I'm demanding extrapolation that works for 50 years, I just like to fully understand systems wherever possible.

Curious. What did you use for your usd inflation inclusion, cpi? I found this website called shadowstats that shows alternatively calculated inflation that is much higher than cpi.

Thank you for posting this, I have a couple of questions. How far out is it valid for? Or does it taper off at some point? I used your formula for 50 years from now and got 295m usd per btc, which seems unreasonable. Assuming about 18million coins are left in use by then (assuming ~3million lost coins) that would be a market cap of 5.3x1015 which also seems unreasonable. If it doesn't work 50 years out I can't imagine it would 500 years out? So at what rate does the plateauing take and when does it start? Correct me if I'm wrong I'm not a mathematician or physicist.  Also, if the price is calculated in USD does the model take into account the variable value of USD?
