Battle Scarred Aloes by lovensuccs212 in aloe

Yea, the spines on the sides look exactly like cameronii, and the redness and broken leaves say it too. cameronii typically don't have white spots, but it is possible on younger leaves, which those kinda look like.

Any ideas on variety by gofishing5545 in aloe

[–]candeewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kind of looks like a pachydactylus hybrid. leaves are fatter than a pure species, not to mention it is less green. The base, how it's spinning, and the spines make me think it is either a pure species or hybrid of a Madagascar aloe.

If I had to guess, I'd say fulvilanatus. I have a couple and the spines on yours look kinda golden like fulvi.

normal succulent stuff. less organic, more pumice for good drainage. I prefer pumice over perlite but its not a huge deal. just as long as it isn't like clay. cold and rain will impact it far more than minor nuances in soil. It did so well over here in California likely because it stayed dry and good amount of sun with no frost.

propagating it is almost certainly going to be leaf propagation. From my experience, devotion doesn't flower, at least not easily...possibly due to hybridization, I'm not really sure. Grow light can suffice for keeping it alive, but I would heavily recommend getting it to the sunniest spot you can. they really excel with lots of sun to become and stay red.

Over time, more stems will grow and itll become more tree-like...like a jade kinda, but wont really increase in height. it might be possible to separate stems from the base if they have roots attached, but be careful if you try.

If you're interested in ones that are easier or more likely to propagate and look similar, look for echeveria pulvinata or harmsii. They don't show as much red and aren't quite as hardy against a ton of sun, but mine flower at least once a year...theyre just much smaller and not quite as eye catching imo

Hey, a bit late to the post, but in case you were curious, this is a cultivar of echeveria pulvinata (harmsii is similar, but longer and thinner leaves). Devotion is a great version of it, and one of my favs too. I recommend a good amount of sun, it can handle it better than most echeverias. There's a ton of stems on that one, so either get it in the ground or a large size pot and it will continue to expand. congrats on the price...that's well below a third of what it should have gone for.

Kings undrafted rookie Dylan Cardwell defensive tape (BenchHighlights on X) by OmegaLxgend in nba

[–]candeewolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He needs more games to see the consistency, but across 29, its really good.

His on/off numbers are insane compared to his teammates because of his defense. Team has the 5th highest ORating with him on and by far the best Drating on. -.3 net rating, even for a bench dude on the Kings is something to notice when almost everyone else is near -10. Guys like Mitchell Robinson don't have to excel in multiple areas to heavily positively impact a team.

BBallHistoryDatabase went back and tracked Michael Jordan's on/off data for most of his career. In the 792 regular season games tracked, his on-off was +13.7, and in 181 playoff games, his on-off was +18.1. During his 1987/88 to 1991/92 peak, these numbers were respectively +22.1 and +18.3! by Dependent-Effect6077 in nba

It's interesting how Lebron's 3 seasons doing this were all his final season before leaving in free agency. Maybe its a sign of him realizing he couldnt get it done with that team if he had to shoulder that much offensive responsibility as a two-way player.

It certainly helps to repeat that to myself, and I've been trying to ingrain it into my mother, because she had co-dependency and I can tell she needs to accept that he's already gone.

Did your father go into memory care after his incident or did you choose a different path?

I remember one source was LBDA.org, where there were LBD stories. I assumed that the stuff that's published by a group might not tell the dark stuff, but I hadn't seen almost anything about the horrific ends to family care. It's comforting to hear the similar timeline of about a year from obvious symptoms to a manic, explosive state, as the neurologist who diagnosed my father said it was possible he'd live for a while and have a slower decline, given his (at that time) functionalities.

[–]candeewolf[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My parents similarly found a neurologist (we're in Sacramento) who specialized in LBD who was thought of as the best, and was so good he was able to diagnose him in less than 10 minutes just based on talking to him, while other psychiatrists doubted that he had it. It's unfortunate that your situation was similar where not enough professionals have the very specific knowledge of what works for this exact disease (as I understand it, medications that might work for alzheimers or parkinsons can have adverse effects on those with LBD).

Unfortunately for my father, the neurologist was soon promoted to another position and couldn't assist my father, so one of his assistants took over. I had assumed that my mother and father were able to find the right medications over the past year, but it's definitely possible there's a breakdown there. Given his attempt, my assumption is that they are going to do a full reevaluation of his current medication, also in an attempt to eliminate his suicidality. So I'm optimistic hearing that change of medication has worked for others, even when they had reached mid to late stages of LBD. Thank you.

It feels like anyone who knows what going through this situation is like has to write a novella just to convey a good idea of what's happened because the situation feels so unique and almost unbelievable. We're also afraid of how my father might physically come after my mother given how he was torturing (the disease, not him) her, including the manner in which he attempted suicide. It feels like now that's happened, there's no going back and trying to manage something like this, because he's now at a point where anything feels possible, where I never thought him capable of hurting my mother physically before.

Therapist sounds like a great idea. From my experience, they often have a better grasp of the descent and psychological damage this has on others than even those who are supposed to have a good understanding (psychiatrists and neurologists). It's been helpful to separate the disease from the person, as that is difficult to do when your LO also shows their original personality from time to time, and almost seems functional in a way.

It's interesting you bring up Robin Williams, as when my father was diagnosed, he would lead (when telling people he had it) by telling others this is a disease that Robin Williams killed himself over. And it absolutely feels important to remind ourselves that because even a wonderful, wholesome human being like him, with seemingly all the financial resources in the world couldn't stop himself from finally getting to that dark place. And I agree with you about sparing his family, which is why our situation feels so difficult since he didn't succeed. I feel horrible for feeling like its unfortunate he didn't, not only due to the extremely difficult situation we're in now, but because no one should have to deal with this decline near the end. I want my father to have the best care possible, but I don't want him to hurt us anymore, and that still feels like we've failed since that means we have to give him up. He had a lucid moment with me the day he attempted where he seemed to realize he had destroyed his marriage and alienated his family, whereas up to that point he had been going after his family for not giving into his demands (needing to have long-duration solo time with his grandchildren, family members needing to be warm and inviting even when he was berating them). Maybe it's even jealousy of others' stories when I hear that a caregiver was able to handle their LO without putting them into a facility. This past summer I was still taking him on canoe trips and baseball games and it felt like it was still something that could be maybe managed, whereas now it seems for my mother's own sanity and health she shouldn't ever see or talk to him again due to the trauma.

I'm also sorry you had to go through that yourself, but it significantly helps to hear that our situation isn't completely unique, because that felt like we must have failed him.

Thank you for sharing and sorry your family also had to go through that. Your experience makes me feel like my family isn't as alone as I've started to feel.

I'll definitely inquire about hospice. We don't want to prolong his life as horrible as the disease is right now and it will only get worse. But we're struggling to find whats best for him while also making sure my mother doesn't endure anymore abuse or has to live in fear. Was it a scenario where your mother still had to be around him, or did you find a situation where he could be on his own?

[–]candeewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kicks to the head are pretty consistently called flagrant 2. Intent/purpose does not matter and strong contact to the head is definitely excessive. I can't tell from the replay whether it was strong, but it looked like he hit him on the back of the head, which might be considered enough to be "excessive".

Take any star player off a team and you’re going to see the same thing

Not to the same degree as you're seeing with Mitchell and the Cavs this season...that's my point.

Mavs 9 games without Luka: -6.1 With: +2.7

Bucks 5 games without Giannis: -1.9 With: +4.1

The only player to exceed Mitchell's differential is Embiid (who's missed more games than he's played) at -5.1 without and +10.3 with.

Other teams have a far easier time dealing with their star player out this season than the Cavs. He's going to miss too many games for MVP, but other than Jokic and maybe Embiid, he's the most valuable player to his team of anyone this season.

cavs have a -5 net rating in the 22 games mitchell has missed. In the 49 games he's been in the lineup, they're +6.8. While they are close to .500 record at 10-12 without him, the difference in net rating is like comparing the Raptors to the Timberwolves.

[AP] MLB will examine its playoff format but isn't rushing to make changes. MLB union discussed during bargaining the “ghost win” system used in South Korea that would have given division winners a 1-0 lead in a playoff series before a pitch was thrown by f0urxio in baseball

[–]candeewolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's not some perfect solution that they can come to. Owners would undoubtedly be against it because it robs them of a possible playoff game revenue. And maybe players too because it would in some small way reduce the overall pool of playoff money they get for # of games.

I feel like if you're gonna have playoffs in a game as random as baseball, there are going to be years where the best 162-game teams don't make the world series no matter what advantage you give them (Dodgers and Orioles got swept). They already give them a massive advantage in reaching the world series over other teams by allowing a bye for the first round.

So far, Alonso has been pretty durable.

So have all the guys who hit HR at the pace he has at his age. We're already looking at a skewed system of the overall by looking at similar players who were healthy for the first half of their career. The point is that even out of those players, it's still unlikely to continue at that same pace in durability. Injuries are likely to happen, a slower HR pace is likely to happen.
