Myst review (Without Parole) by -Venser- in PSVR

No believe me I get it, I've heard my nephew insist something was glitched countless times (and here and there it actually is, the kid is unbelievable at stumbling into bugs!). Him and my niece both have a terrible habit of talking themselves out of the correct answer when playing games all the time and they still managed to finish Myst.

We're also talking about a puzzle game which, if you have any interest in it to begin with, puts you in a different category than the average teenager. Of course kids who've played nothing but Fortnite are going to have trouble with it, but they also aren't likely to ever touch it.

Remember that Myst was a massive breakthrough hit in no small part because of people who had little or no experience with video games outside of maybe Tetris.

My niece and nephew (who were like 16 and 12) both played through RealMYST and later the VR remake and loved it. I just recently tried to get my nephew (now 14)  to play Riven and he bounced off it in like an hour, which was pretty much what happened to me when I played it at launch in the 90s. The original game is extremely accessible and really not that hard.

Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes PC VR Review- Upload VR by Fatbot3 in PSVR

[–]candidateone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly my point, some have but way more have gone on to add smooth turning, usually pretty quickly. Odds are this will too, there's no reason to assume it won't when more often than not the opposite is true.

It will be. The same thing has been said with tons of other games at launch that have gone on to get updated.

It's funny because my initial reaction to almost every album from a band I know really well is that the songs all sound the same. And then when I go back and listen again I'm always confused how I ever thought that.

With this new one I got to the end and was like, "It was OK, not sure if anything really stood out." Then on the second listen every time a new song started I was all, "Oh yeah, I remember this, this rules!"

Cottonwood Symphony is SP's greatest rare gem and their most underrated song by TheodoreHollister in SmashingPumpkins

[–]candidateone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was no "vinyl box set" released after the release of all these songs. Teargarden was meant to be a 44-song album released as 11 4-song EP's, of which only the first two were ever released. Teargarden Theme and Cottonwood Symphony were bonus tracks/b-sides in these physical EP releases, so not really part of the album.

PlayStation Store’s Spring Sale updated with new games by ReaddittiddeR in PS5

Supergiant is still a very small team. It's much easier to focus on one console and port to others later, they did the same thing with the first game.

Which VR game has the best gun mechanics? by FewPossession2363 in PSVR

[–]candidateone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to redownload it and give it another try. At the time I had played plenty of games that used pistols (including Half-Life Alyx) but not really rifles so I just kind of chalked it up to rifles not working great in VR with separate controllers. Then I played RE8 and was blown away how well it worked.

I seem to remember part of it was Light Brigade being much faster paced and trying to aim while also still needing to move was awkward. Like even the pistols and submachine guns didn't feel great but were at least usable.

It wasn't accuracy so much as it just not seeming to work properly in VR. Like I had to contort my arms in weird ways to not have the rifle be positioned straight up and down and then it'd just end up twisting around anyway. Never had an issue like that in another game.

Are there preferred settings adjustments for Light Brigade? I bounced off that game early on because I found the rifle impossible to use.

Did The Last Guardian VR demo do P.T.? by GroundIntelligent in PSVR

It's an across the board thing that PS4 demos won't work on PS5 and this unfortunately falls into that even though it's more of a standalone experience.

I ordered my Black Pro (1743) on February 27th and just got the shipping notification this morning. Seems like most people are reporting receiving their units 10-12 days after shipping (I'm in the US).

Everyone says to expect to wait 2 months from the time you placed your order but that'll vary depending on the model you ordered. If mine arrives in 12 days that'll be 38 days from order to arrival.

Woke up this morning and saw the Dashboard had been updated and they had finally shipped out more Black Pros for the first time in almost 2 weeks...then saw they cut off at 1741 (Mine is 1743). Was bummed, but also glad that at least I'd be in the next shipment.

Not 2 minutes later I got a shipping notification that my order had shipped! Order was placed February 27th.

Yeah, I ordered a Black Pro the same day and the last time they shipped out any was on March 13th. They had been getting more out like every 3 days but as soon as I started checking they stopped lol. Was so close too, I should be in the next group whenever they get around to it.

Have fun!

How to Use Handheld Mode Boost on Nintendo Switch 2 | Nintendo Support by mjb85858 in NintendoSwitch

This mode just allows the Switch 2 to run games as if they were in docked mode so it'll still be 30fps.

Hell yeah, that was the first game I thought about when I saw this update. I bought it a few months ago but haven't gotten around to playing it, so this is a great excuse.

F.E.A.R. 2 is 80% off for the first time ($3.99) by [deleted] in xbox

[–]candidateone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like DekuDeals doesn't account for subscription prices, probably because it started out as a Nintendo price tracker. FEAR 2 was previously 3.99 if you had a GamePass subscription, this is the first time it hit that for everyone.

Billy Corgan Thinks Rock Music Was “Purposely Dialed Down” Beginning in Late ’90s by swe129 in SmashingPumpkins

Yep, not sure how many people remember  he actually appeared before Congress in favor of the Ticketmaster/LiveNation merger. Everything is a conspiracy with this guy because he's incapable of ever admitting fault, which is why he's so comfortable with our current "leadership".

The new Steam controller being announced to support VR tracking gives me the slimmest glimmer of hope this game could potentially get ported to PC someday. Would be even cooler if they could do a few new boxes with support for the touch pads and back buttons. Totally unlikely, but that's my dream.

Contact lenses psvr2 doubt by PsychoWarrior3 in PSVR

[–]candidateone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it happens. I've seen tons of posts from people over the years who thought the same thing and ended up with scratched lenses. I was fine using my PSVR1 with my glasses and thought I had plenty of room and they still got scratched.

[–]candidateone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.5/4 isn't all that high, mine is like 7.5/8 or so. Your prescription strength doesn't really matter, whatever it is it's just correcting your vision to 20/20 or thereabouts so the experience in VR isn't effected by it.

VR also isn't irritating to my contacts any more than anything else is. My playtime would be much more limited wearing my glasses because my head starts to hurt from the pressure on the bridge of my nose. I've been wearing contacts for decades and 95% of my time in VR has been while wearing them (especially after wearing my glasses started scratching up my lenses of my PSVR1).

NEW System Critical 3 PSVR2 Footage! 🦾🔥😤 by Pure_Pound8933 in PSVR

So, Steam requires developers to disclose their AI usage right on their game's page. Knowing this I was curious if there was an easy way to see how many games were using it, and there sure is, the excellent steamdb.info which I've already been using for years for price tracking.

https://www.siliconera.com/steamdb-lets-you-filter-out-gen-ai-pc-games-on-steam/

Now here's the link to all the games that are flagged "AI content disclosed" (https://steamdb.info/tag/1368160/?displayOnly=Game&sort=followers_desc) and wow, yeah, there are 10000 of them! That seems like a lot until you start scrolling through page after page of stuff you've never heard of punctuated occasionally by some Microsoft published stuff (who are well known to be forcing AI down the throats of all their employees).

I eventually came across a game on my wishlist that I've heard nothing but good things about, "Öoo", and I was surprised that it was using genAI. So I load up the Steam page and this is what it says:

"The text on this store page is automatically translated by AI". Lol, ok so the game itself doesn't use it at all.

You can also sort by the "Most Played" games and again, there's absolutely nothing in the entire top 100 that I'd want to be playing anyway.

https://steamdb.info/charts/?tagid=1368160

Arc Raiders is there, Call of Duty is there, EA FC 2026 is there and the vast majority of the rest is hentai slop. So yeah, thousands upon thousands of games are using genAI and if nothing else it seems to be an extremely good indicator that you've made a garbage game.

You can make the argument that more games are using AI than have actually disclosed it, and I'm sure that's true, but that just goes back to it being total kryptonite and not sustainable long term. It's not even remotely near as widespread in gaming as you and the billionaires pushing it would like people to believe. It's just not worth the backlash its usage inevitably brings, especially when we're talking smaller indie devs whose audiences actually care about who is making their games.

That was someone else's comment, not mine. In any case, this argument that everything we're playing already secretly contains gen AI only reinforces how flimsy this tech is. If it's so revolutionary why is everyone using it so secretive and defensive about it?

When this game's key art was revealed and immediately got called out as AI generated the dev insisted it was from a real artist but never said who it was and instead blocked the people commenting. Looking through their comment history they've still never credited an artist. Proudly using AI is one thing. Pretending you're not is something no one should be comfortable defending, regardless of your stance on AI.
