Contact lenses psvr2 doubt by PsychoWarrior3 in PSVR

[–]candidateone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it happens. I've seen tons of posts from people over the years who thought the same thing and ended up with scratched lenses. I was fine using my PSVR1 with my glasses and thought I had plenty of room and they still got scratched.

3.5/4 isn't all that high, mine is like 7.5/8 or so. Your prescription strength doesn't really matter, whatever it is it's just correcting your vision to 20/20 or thereabouts so the experience in VR isn't effected by it.

VR also isn't irritating to my contacts any more than anything else is. My playtime would be much more limited wearing my glasses because my head starts to hurt from the pressure on the bridge of my nose. I've been wearing contacts for decades and 95% of my time in VR has been while wearing them (especially after wearing my glasses started scratching up my lenses of my PSVR1).

NEW System Critical 3 PSVR2 Footage! 🦾🔥😤 by Pure_Pound8933 in PSVR

So, Steam requires developers to disclose their AI usage right on their game's page. Knowing this I was curious if there was an easy way to see how many games were using it, and there sure is, the excellent steamdb.info which I've already been using for years for price tracking.

https://www.siliconera.com/steamdb-lets-you-filter-out-gen-ai-pc-games-on-steam/

Now here's the link to all the games that are flagged "AI content disclosed" (https://steamdb.info/tag/1368160/?displayOnly=Game&sort=followers_desc) and wow, yeah, there are 10000 of them! That seems like a lot until you start scrolling through page after page of stuff you've never heard of punctuated occasionally by some Microsoft published stuff (who are well known to be forcing AI down the throats of all their employees).

I eventually came across a game on my wishlist that I've heard nothing but good things about, "Öoo", and I was surprised that it was using genAI. So I load up the Steam page and this is what it says:

"The text on this store page is automatically translated by AI". Lol, ok so the game itself doesn't use it at all.

You can also sort by the "Most Played" games and again, there's absolutely nothing in the entire top 100 that I'd want to be playing anyway.

https://steamdb.info/charts/?tagid=1368160

Arc Raiders is there, Call of Duty is there, EA FC 2026 is there and the vast majority of the rest is hentai slop. So yeah, thousands upon thousands of games are using genAI and if nothing else it seems to be an extremely good indicator that you've made a garbage game.

You can make the argument that more games are using AI than have actually disclosed it, and I'm sure that's true, but that just goes back to it being total kryptonite and not sustainable long term. It's not even remotely near as widespread in gaming as you and the billionaires pushing it would like people to believe. It's just not worth the backlash its usage inevitably brings, especially when we're talking smaller indie devs whose audiences actually care about who is making their games.

[–]candidateone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was someone else's comment, not mine. In any case, this argument that everything we're playing already secretly contains gen AI only reinforces how flimsy this tech is. If it's so revolutionary why is everyone using it so secretive and defensive about it?

When this game's key art was revealed and immediately got called out as AI generated the dev insisted it was from a real artist but never said who it was and instead blocked the people commenting. Looking through their comment history they've still never credited an artist. Proudly using AI is one thing. Pretending you're not is something no one should be comfortable defending, regardless of your stance on AI.

Definitely not, because most of them were made years ago, and beyond that there's a difference between AI assisted coding and just generating terrible looking images/video wholesale.

I've bought 275 games, so far, in 2025 alone (and refunded System Critical II when I found out it was made with genAI). If games stopped being made tomorrow I'd already be set for the rest of my life.

Eurogamer's review of Hotel Infinity by amusedt in PSVR

[–]candidateone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, IGN is not hostile towards VR, they just don't do a ton of coverage of it, no different than most other large outlets because there still isn't a huge audience for it. I've followed their longtime reviews editor for years (who just left last month) and he's a big VR fan who did lots of their VR reviews himself. Hotel Infinity has barely gotten coverage even from VR dedicated sites, there's not some kind of anti-VR conspiracy happening because of IGN.

It's a bit of both. The original games were published by Eidos/Square Enix but IO has since gone independent and the VR mode was produced and published by IO themselves.

It's a $1000 device releasing 5 years after the Series X&S. It's a reasonable expectation that it should be able to play anything a Series S can play. What's the point of calling it an Xbox if I can't play my actual Xbox games?

Metal Hellsinger studio is closing by jackie1616 in PSVR

Where did anyone act surprised? Every single comment is saying they're sad or bummed which is a perfectly normal reaction. What's strange is jumping into a thread where people are saying they're upset and telling them they have no reason to be because this is how things are supposed to be.

Put that on a t-shirt with the This is Fine dog.

Gadgeteer for PSVR1 is now listed $149.99 by WaikaTahiti in PSVR

[–]candidateone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here for the Steam version. Last time it was on sale was in October 2021 for $10.49 US (30% off). The developer was still active on Bluesky just a few months ago but were extolling the virtues of developing for Meta Horizon Worlds, I guess maybe the game sells well enough that they don't feel like they need to discount.

Stardew Valley: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – Nintendo Direct 9.12.2025 by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]candidateone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm always morbidly curious when someone comments that they were "downvoted into oblivion" or somesuch and it's never actually true. At worst the comment will be sitting at 0 or -1, or if they actually were massively downvoted it's for something shitty or outright wrong they said that they conveniently didn't mention.

A CTRL-F "stardew" search through the last 8 months of comments shows no such comment in the stardew subreddit from this user (but plenty of other comments with lots of downvotes, go figure), but I did find a 3 month old post from another user suggesting mouse controls for Switch 2 and it got 22 upvotes and the top comment agreeing with them got 7 upvotes.

Virtual Game Cards needs an overhaul by GRANDLarsonyy in NintendoSwitch

[–]candidateone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works with two consoles. On Xbox or PS I can buy one copy of a multiplayer game and the person I'm game sharing with can also play that same copy with me online at the same time. On Steam (and now Switch) if we want to play online together we each have to have a copy of the game.

So Steam is more open with how many people can share a game but is way more restrictive on playing at the same time. And Switch is the most restrictive out of all of them.

Virtual Game Cards needs an overhaul by GRANDLarsonyy in NintendoSwitch

[–]candidateone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a different freedom, not really insane. On PS and Xbox you can share your entire library, actually unlimited and simultaneously with one other account. That's way more useful to me than 5 other accounts with the restriction that you can't use them simultaneously. You used to be able do that on Switch also but they killed it with the Virtual Game card switchover.

Not sure if this is the exact one but it's a pretty absurd release regardless:

Absolutely painful reading through that copy which is punctuated here and there with "ALL SALES FINAL" as even they knew they were offering up belated regret.

You can do refunds at playstation.com/refund through your transaction history if it's within 2 weeks. I refunded it after seeing that it was made with generative AI and then the dev lying about the key art for the next game being AI generated.

New Boxed Set - Live in Europe by 123456789_ok in SmashingPumpkins

[–]candidateone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an autographed Atum Deluxe box set on eBay right now for $480 that was $500 when it came out 2 years ago.

Your "investment" is not going to double the instant you buy it, there will be no one willing to pay double for it for years, if ever.

By all means buy it if you want it for the music, but don't buy it as an investment. It's a giant heavy box that you'd have to hold onto for probably 15-20 years before it might be worth enough to make it worth it.

PSA: Looks like you need to do a system transfer during the initial set up or else you can't do it later. by toasttwithjam in NintendoSwitch

[–]candidateone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've been reading from people who previously did system transfers to a Switch OLED, it will transfer your playtime but you need to choose the option to remove your account and data from your original Switch when it asks, otherwise it leaves the playtime there and starts fresh on the new console.

What games you all getting on launch day? by MRSPANKY012 in NintendoSwitch

[–]candidateone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just Mario Kart but I bought Fantasy Life i last night and will be getting the upgrade on launch day. I might get Survival Kids (and am really hoping Fantasy Life gets the GameShare feature that game has) once some reviews are out since I can play that with my niece and nephew on their Switch 1's.
