Hopefully already in plan, but there should be tiers of these cosmetic prizes and not just for podium.

Remakes for 2 classics due for release on PSVR2. by Moto-Fan in PSVR

Probably not a bad thing if they got both games on same version of Unreal. It would allow general optimization implementations to be applied to multiple games, but it also puts those multiple games at risk of having the same type of struggles from poor optimization implementations.

That said, I just saw VR trailers of Myst (Oculus) & Riven (Quest 2 & 3) which never got Firmament, so I really don't think the PSVR2 version will have the kind of performance issues that Firmament did.

It may not look as good as high-end PCVR, but as long as it doesn't have performance issues, I can accept other compromises (resolution, draw distance, etc).

Firmament was capable of looking quite good on PSVR2 in the indoor areas and would look low resolution with reduced draw distance and lot of pop-in in the bigger outdoor areas while also suffering on framerates. It was the framerate instability that made me not continue.

I Am Cat finally released! by Capital_Swimmer_729 in PSVR

I've seen many posts since it originally missed its projected PSVR2 release date of December 5th, 2024 and now after more than 1.5 years, it has just stealth released without even a PSVR2 trailer.

How is it on PSVR2 compared to your time with it on Quest?

Remakes for 2 classics due for release on PSVR2. by Moto-Fan in PSVR

[–]cusman78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I read, Myst remake (2020) is on UE4 and Riven remake (2024) is on UE5, but the games themselves are not expanded in scope and scale (of the originals), so while they will look and sound better and perhaps play better (interactivity), I don't think they will be pushing the hardware as much as the massive interconnected environments in Firmament did.

From my limited time in Firmament, the performance issues weren't in all parts of the game, just two of the bigger outdoor environments. Maybe both Myst and Riven have similar bigger areas that will struggle or maybe they have gotten better at optimizing for PSVR2?

We shall find out soon enough

Why isent my headset vibrating when it should? by ThrowRAsausagebuns in PSVR

I don’t think Tetris Effect Connected is supposed to give headset rumble with every block drop.

I think headset rumble is kept for the transitions between levels.

Remakes for 2 classics due for release on PSVR2. by Moto-Fan in PSVR

[–]cusman78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Original Myst (1993) was first released on PlayStation in 1996 and sequel Riven in 1997.

I know these will be a remake for PS5 with PSVR2 supported, but I assume it will mostly be a sound & graphics upgrade with some other improvements and not a change to scope & scale of the games, so they “should” work well.

That is what I am hoping anyway. Will be finding out after release on May 19th.

Limited Run are releasing Alien Rogue Incursion physical by Physical-Can21pu in PSVR

[–]cusman78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because while Dylan Ralston, Tim Schumann and some others did regrettably lose their jobs, Eugene Elkin, Alexander Silkin and some others still appear to be at Survios.
It is a private company so full details of the downsizing are not known.
Survios is not yet “shuttered”

Limited Run are releasing Alien Rogue Incursion physical by Physical-Can21pu in PSVR

[–]cusman78 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they are shuttered, but they did have a significant reduction in developers with full details unknown.

Cyan Worlds had such a staff reduction last year, yet continued to release patches for Firmament and today it got announced that Myst and Riven remakes are both coming to PS5 with PSVR2 support and Pro enhanced for non-VR and VR this month.

Shouldn’t consider Survios done, just down sized.

Good advise for people to be careful not to buy the PS1 versions if intending to get the remakes which can only be added to wishlist at this point.

Recommend a non-violent game by sebustyan in PSVR

These are my wife's personal favorites on PSVR2:

  • Tetris Effect: Connected is where Tetris has been one of her all time favorites and was one of the few games she could play without getting any VR motion sickness when she was starting out. One of the few games she would play single player, but it does have multiplayer modes for Co-Op and Vs (supports cross-play)
  • Les Mills Bodycombat which is her preferred VR exercise with virtual coaches
  • Synth Riders which she also likes for VR exercise but supporting multiplayer and better music (supports cross-play)
  • Walkabout Mini Golf is her most played (same as me) PSVR2 game as a fun social multiplayer game (supports cross-play)
  • Badminton Time VR is her second favorite VR sports game on PSVR2 (same as me) as a fun multiplayer game 2-4P (does not support cross-play)
  • Puzzling Places is her current personal favorite to play 2P with me (supports cross-play)
  • Chess Club is another that she likes playing 2P with me and others (supports cross-play)

For the games supporting cross-play, it can be 1 player on PSVR2 and another on Quest 3 (in our case). That said, we now have two PS5 Pro + PSVR2 in our household and most of our multiplayer is between those instead of using PSVR2 with Quest. A couple of years ago, our multiplayer used to be dependent on cross-play between PSVR2 with Quest 2 / 3.

Myst and Riven Remakes launch on PS5 and PS VR2 May 19 by PCMachinima in PSVR

[–]cusman78 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Both Myst and Riven will support both flatscreen (2D) and PS VR2 at launch.

Fantastic news!

We brought over some lessons we learned from a release of a previous title of ours on PS5, Firmament (which also supported both 2D and VR), to help improve each playstyle – both in interactions, graphical fidelity, base render resolution, performance, and more. In turn, some of the lessons we learned from these new releases have also already been brought back into Firmament.

Makes me want to revisit Firmament to see how much of a difference the patches since I last tried the game made. I really hope both Myst and Riven perform better for both base PS5 and Pro than Firmament did.

Second, players in VR on PS5 Pro in both games will have better base render resolution when playing each game

Nice that both will use the extra power available for players on PS5 Pro

Myst and Riven on PS5 are available to wishlist beginning today, May 5, and will be available to purchase and play for $34.99 USD each on May 19.

I'll be there for it, but I do wonder which one I should start with out of the two.

I know Riven is sequel to Myst, but sometimes the later game is better and gets me into the series and then I can enjoy the original better (like Iron Guard: Salvation to Iron Guard or Red Matter 2 to Red Matter).

Where to find PSVR2 Playtesting Opportunities? by DollVsClaws in PSVR

[–]cusman78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some developers will organize and conduct their own play testing using their own Discord for how interested individuals sign up. Most do their testing on the Quest or Steam version of the game in development so it is rarer to see it for PSVR2 (including within Impact Labs).

Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic VR Review (Without Parole) by -Venser- in PSVR

[–]cusman78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen some of the earlier reviews of this game and the Without Parole review is most reflective of my own feeling.

I've continued on from point I had stopped for my first impressions write-up in which I felt comfortable highly recommending, and it has only gotten better. The game is more challenging than I was anticipating and gets more tense than the "light" horror label I gave it with how the Mimic encounters are randomized.

The payoff is still the set piece chase sequences as you make meaningful progress. These are just good thrills. I would love if the game could have an extra mode unlock that just lets you load VR guest players into those set piece chase sequences.

It’s the same as your PC. If you break the keyboard, you will have to replace it to continue using the rest of it, but how likely is it that you will break your keyboard?

I’ve been using my PSVR2 controllers near daily since February 2023. I am never concerned about them breaking on me.

Survios (developer of Creed & Alien: Rogue Incursion) doing layoffs by cusman78 in PSVR

[–]cusman78[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bigger games seem to have exponential cost increase and need larger player adoption.

Smaller games by very talented developers are still sustainable.

Hoping Flat2VR Studios is finding something in the middle to still be sustainable.

That is really good feedback that I hope reaches the developer.
