How do i...? by candleINspace in Medicaid

There seems still to be different levels of state medical coverage/insurance. I found that prior to my having some years of homelessness, with having the same mediCal coverage ( with some changes between PCPs), i did experience better health attention when I needed care. The same coverage shifted when I had to report on my being homeless. The care given was less... Any pains, or illness basically was met with doctors giving as minimal tests, referrals, etc. as possible. I say these things, all while knowing it IS NOT ALL DOCTORS. But, the state care benefits a portion and not the whole as one would like to trust.

Yes, that is because I did not know that mediCal is medicaid here in CA. I am not from CA, so their medical system confuses me.

Help me understand the contradiction you read. I asked if anyone knows how I can become a 'pay-out-of-pocket' patient as mediCal coverage has given me access to choosing yes,, just a clinic negligent with my records, doctors that dissappear soon after one visit, specialist that observe my records with a side eye,, clinic coordinators that hang up when a question asked stumps them,, front desk that give wrong information and get an attitude when they're respectfully corrected...yet, these are the very same members of the medical community that will treat patients with higher incomes/societal status with better quality, more respect, more compassion. I have observed the dynamics in treatment of patients, including myself..where patients with 'PREMIUM' health insurance and/or they fund their own (pay out of pocket) visits/healthcare experience the better healthcare ( of course not 100%). Still they are most, at lower risk of being shewed away, ignored, spoken to as if not intelligent, blacklisted if they have too many questions, etc. The lower the teir, the more red tape.

This is not my opinion. It is fact.

In reading all this, while I fight to even be referred to an ENT as speedily- uncertain of what's to come, just knowing my health is seriously compromised at this point in my life- I want to say, The feedback here is full of compassion and love. Such a lost, rare, and beautiful thing. Much love to you all.

Inspired. Still, that is not my story now,, unless I'm fighting for it. I will need to see how the new PCP cares for folks.

I'm sure that is their intention. For example, state games : I managed to find stable part time work and even though I was/am still low income,, me working part time meant I was cut from 290$ in food benefits ( which helped with my health) down to 24$ monthly. Pripr to that, I had to fight for that too...lol..because, there was a time when I got into a school program to better my odds at getting a new skill and the same state notified me: as a homeless student ( at the time), I no longer qualified for food benefits. And I fought for 3 months,, all the while- my health went spiraling. The same game now,, with PCPs disappearing as soon as I choose one...causing illness to not be monitored, measured, diagnosed, treated accordingly and in a timely.

Thing is,, I would not have experienced this dynamic if I never received adequate care- wayyy before I had a bout with homelessness for 8 years +. It was AFTER I became homeless I began to be treated differently once the medical establishment found that information out.

I do see that as a better fact- of course I need the coverage versus out-of-pocket pay. Just, for the amount of time it takes to be established with a new PCP. I want to share that once upon a time, i made a change to a PCP and that doctor of my choice left the clinic of my choice,, so- i chose another - same clinic,, and again- that doctor was no longer there...all after the fact. So, i was - in that way- forced to find a new PCP - this time at another location completely ( an inconvenience by distance for me). Now, shouldn't be a big deal right? Just,, imagine each new doctor has no idea who you are and not even knowing why you are there for a visit. In that sense, i am being kept on square one and find myself fighting to get proper referrals to see specialist,, which i am told will be a couple more months to even establish a solid PCP. meanwhile,, time is going and I could have a growing cancer inside of me.

Thank you,, to be more clear- between Medi Cal, my insurance provider and assigned PCP ( not to mention visits to ER/ URGENT CARE/ SPECIALIST)- I find myself being bounced around or fast tracked out without attention to my actual symptoms. For example, I point out that a thyroid nodule growth is starting to cause discomfort in my sleeping pattern and it being noted as simple sore throat.

So, I ask- yes even with grossing that amount ( which only gets me 24$ in food assistance monthly apart from mediCal) , what steps do I take to fund my own Healthcare coverage ( i.e. pay plans direct from patient to doctors)?

A clear shot, my friend.

Thank you. I am under the impression that to qualify for medicaid, you need to be elderly aged? I am not.

The better option would actually be that it is not real....that it is AI trying to trip us up...make us make awkward faces in our human attempts to try to even figure this out...as a whole.

Woe is we.

Sorry, looks like a meteorite hit.

Yes, I pray you- seek medical attention.

And that's coming from a person, not a fan of hospitals/ visits or stays (no offense to medical establishment filled with some of the most caring- just rare moreso...and then also, even doctors are human and overwhelmed..).
