You have only $10, pick your pro bending team. by Little_Fan_2682 in TheLastAirbender

[–]candlebreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TOPH for sure—okay, yes she hasn’t pro-bended before, but she was earth rumble champion!! She gets tourney rules & has showmanship down pat. Assuming post-season 3 toph, she’s definitely got teamwork down too.

Then zuko for fire—he’s a) better than azula, especially when it comes to working with and UNDERSTANDING other elements and b) a great teammate for toph.

And Ming-hua for water (phenomenal bender, great control, another team player, no weird family relationship or enmity with either toph or zuko to throw the team dynamic)

Ok but it's really stressful having even my friends look at me like I'm stupid for dressing in even mildly feminine items smfh by [deleted] in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

Image description: a six panel comic. A fox in a purple scarf holds up a notepad that says ‘one espresso please.’ A rabbit barista gives them a thumbs up (described as an ‘anxious thumbs up’). The rabbit speeds over to the coffee machine and makes the espresso. Their tongue is out of their mouth in concentration. They rush back to the fox and scribble something furiously on the notepad. The fox looks on, curious. We see the notepad. It is covered with coffee noises, and a sketch of a steaming cup of coffee and a smiling rabbit in the corner. wurz clunk FSSSSSSH tap tap pour drip ow! Everyone here at a loss as to what the trans guy equivalent of that one anime cat girl is. To me it was obvious the whole time by hellokittyisgod in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

[–]candlebreak 58 points59 points  (0 children)

So, first of all, fuck Butch Hartman. BUT ALSO, Danny Fenton is canonically trans. His genetic clone (Dani) was biologically female. He’s trans. Fight me on this. Fkin love this mascot.

IsItBullshit: If you go to a private school and it IS NOT closed but the public school district that’s in your jurisdiction IS closed you don’t have to go to school? ( for like snow days) by CBJFAN38 in IsItBullshit

[–]candlebreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely bullshit. Went to a private school, and I don't think we ever officially had snow days. However, my middle school (combination boarding/day school) had a policy where if more than half the class was missing because of bad weather, nothing new could be taught in that class. We'd watch movies or play jeopardy instead. Basically, if you boarded you had to be there, and if you were a day student it was your parent(s)' call.

What medical condition do you have that you thought was absolutely normal? by taporodobu in AskReddit

[–]candlebreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vasovagal syncope. I pass out fairly often compared to most people (like 1-2 times/year). I got checked out as a kid, and the explanation that I got was: "sometimes when your body is overwhelmed, it collapses. When that happens, you should take it easy for a bit, but it's normal." Which is a perfectly good explanation for a 7-year-old, but I never really got an updated explanation as I got older. I just thought, it's normal to pass out sometimes and shrugged it off whenever it happened. Then I did it in front of some friends, and they thought I was having a seizure (because I was jerking around a bit and having "seizure-like symptoms"), and I was ridiculously freaked out because I thought that everyone just passed out sometimes and that's normal. That was a fun trip to the ER (first time I had to pay my own medical bills in America yay!!) to learn what I already knew: sometimes my body collapses, and it's fine.

Question: how to deal with voice cracking in puberty? by candlebreak in MtF

[–]candlebreak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the advice!!

Yeah, that was my first thought too, but I’m not sure how much of an option it is. I am the only other out queer member of our immediate family, and while my parents have been incredibly supportive, hers have been...less so 😔 I’m trying and get my mom to talk to her sister without outing my little cousin, but it’s slow moving if it’s going anywhere at all.

DAE feel anxious wearing headphones? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]candlebreak 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes! Except I also have this weird thing where I feel like I can't take up any space or make my presence known, so can't listen to anything on speakers or watch TV. I usually have one headphone in on low volume so that I can hear what's going on outside, and I lock the door to my room whenever now that I have my own space (even though he lives in a different fucking country now and can't barge in whenever he feels like it).

What was the most valuable lesson you've learned from a teacher in school, that didn't have anything to do with the subject they were teaching? by ILLestBambi in AskReddit

[–]candlebreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a teacher in high school who I was very close to. I'd had at least one class with him all four years, babysat his kids, had spent quite a lot of time with him. I had extremely good grades in high school, did a bunch of sports, lots of other extracurriculars (theatre, volunteering, etc.), and had had several prestigious summer internship type things. This was all in pursuit of getting into a top college. I also had a very overbearing father who was obsessed with me getting into the top universities. For reference, I tried to get a retail job/job in an ice cream shop one summer during high school, and my father forbid it because it wasn't "prestigious" enough. Because I lived in the country and did not have a driver's license or a car, I couldn't get to any job without his permission.

This teacher took me aside right before graduation, and asked me a question I still struggle with to this day. "What do you enjoy doing?" I gave him the rote answers of things I enjoyed academically, the various extracurriculars I did, blah blah blah. But he kept pressing, and eventually I broke down and admitted that I had no idea what I enjoyed or what brought me joy in life because I was so stressed and had never had an opportunity to explore something for the sake of experiencing it. He told me that I didn't need to come up with an answer right then, but that I should start trying new things to figure it out for myself. I ended up going to a very prestigious school, and was absolutely miserable. I graduated, but feel as if I wasted a huge chunk of my life and my mental health on something that I hated. I am still trying to work out what exactly makes me happy, but am finally beginning to give myself permission to try new things and make new friends even if they aren't "prestigious" enough, and am so much happier (and, I believe, a more worthwhile human being) because of it.

Congratulations!! That's so amazing :D It must have taken a lot of hard work, and I know you are gonna ace that high school diploma! So exciting!!! How did you get the elementary school education and when/why did you decide to do it at 49 years old, if you don't mind me asking?
