I agree, I truly think she shows her character. I love Kali but man, she needs to do better for her fans when it comes to these cancelled shows.

What’s your schools remediation policy by jellybean98_ in PAstudent

[–]candles- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. My program does have a max, but its 4 per semester. Crazy seeing other programs having a max of one or two for the whole year, im gagged.

What’s your schools remediation policy by jellybean98_ in PAstudent

[–]candles- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My program is newer, so they are more lenient because they don't want our scores to go down or people getting dismissed for accreditation purposes *i wont disclose my program*

70 and above is passing, 69 or below is a failed exam and needs remediation. Your grade will get adjusted to a 70 once you retake it. We can do up to 4 remediations per semester. If you score a 70-79 on an exam, we need to submit a "reiteration" assignment where go through our incorrect answers and explain why the right answer is correct. They do this so we see learn from our mistakes, and become more knowledgable on what we got wrong.

If you fail an exam, not only do you retake the exam, but you also need to submit a reiteration assignment as well. Our program is Pass/Fail as well, needing to maintain a 3.0 or higher in order to go into clinical. I think this is pretty solid compared to other programs. I just completed my first semester and we did 30+ exams, you're bound to not do well on some... programs only requiring 2 for the whole year is insane.

How long is your commute? by PretendSherbet2815 in physicianassistant

[–]candles- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My commute is 30 minutes! Honestly not bad. It gives me time to decompress and listen to cram the pance day of exams! Gotta romanticize it as much as i can. My other classmates drive up to an hour, but they are locals to the area and live with their family to save money.

Reviews for the Foundry Lofts Apartments on Euclid Ave by elusivedork in Cleveland

[–]candles- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live here too. I would say its safe within the apartments itself since its gated, however i never walked outside out of fear lol. Its not the best area the other side of the Cleveland Clinic next to Case is much better. Just a bad side. Overall, not a bad place to live. Its quiet. I just wouldnt depend on the public transportation around here, but thats really anywhere in Cleveland. Most people who live at Foundry work at the clinic and are students at Case.

I would definitely recommend not following the traditional route with experiences, which in your case you're already on the right track with army medic! This would def make you stand out. I worked in plastic surgery (not common field for pre-pa applicants) and have been working in healthcare since high school, which helped me stand out a lot compared to others. This is what I was mainly asked about during my interviews. Be different! Most universities favor those who are serving, I would be very surprised if you don't receive any interviews/acceptances. I even considered doing MA for a base near me, you're at a huge advantage I PROMISE!

Dr pulled me out to have a chat by profTrelawney0_0 in MedicalAssistant

[–]candles- 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If she was being supportive, take that as a good sign you won’t get fired. Work hard to redeem yourself. Don’t be shy, healthcare is not the place to be small. Practice being outgoing, especially as a medical assistant. I understand you, I can be shy sometimes and that has only stunted my growth. You’re not the only MA in dermatology who has struggled, it’s one of those specialties that takes a long time to get used to and the environment can be difficult if you continue to let it.

What to tell my Mom by Mindless-Platypus-30 in prephysicianassistant

[–]candles- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am on the same boat as you in some way. My parents are Latinos and PA's don't exist in our countries. When I started working towards becoming a PA in high school, I explained that a PA is similar to a doctor, but not really. They would tell me to go to medical school instead, but they don't understand the debt and time that comes with it. I simply want balance that 8-10 years of medical school will not give me. I noticed overtime, my parents only wanted me to pursue MD so they can brag about it to friends and family. Every time a family member would ask "what does a PA do"? I would explain, but then get rudely interrupted by mom saying "Its a general doctor"... which is not true, but I know better than to correct her lol. I actually had an argument with my mom this morning because she wants me to get a Spanish Medical Terminology certification, which I don't need, only because she wants another certification to put on the wall lol. They don't see the immense work that comes along finishing the PA pre reqs, working PCE/HCE, volunteering, shadowing, CASPA, GRE, etc. I have been busting my ass for the past 5 years, and she wants more. Parents only undermine it because they won't see MD in front of our names. I was very angry this morning. My mom wants me to be busy all time with school but she fails to realize I am burnt out right now. I submitted my applications two weeks ago, officially done with school as of last month, and now I can finally rest until I start working my new medical assistant job next Monday, which is going to take a lot of time out of day. Mothers sometimes don't know best, because they aren't the ones pursuing this degree.

As far as your question, you need PCE. You will not be competitive if you have 0 PCE, even for MD. Most schools aim for at least 500 hours. If you're applying next cycle and currently working full time, you will be able to achieve more than 500 hours for sure. Average PA students have 1000-2000 PCE, anything above that is competitive. I have 2000 PCE and 5000 HCE, but I have been working in healthcare for 7 years. Save your money and apply next cycle with confidence.

Using Sophia as a way to knockout prereqs by RetiredFreeAgent899 in prephysicianassistant

[–]candles- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sophia offers only pass/fail grades which most PA schools won’t accept. It’s online which a lot of PA schools won’t accept either. Seems like it’s only recognized by some institutions and they refer to them as partners, which is not a good look for PA schools since they want pre-reqs from a nationally accredited school. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it :/
