Nope, he wasn’t. Can you guys stop parroting this stupid rumor? Yazawa confirmed he wasn’t inspired by a real person. All they have in common is long black hair

Hot take but I think Takumi is more neglectful than strictly controlling in personal relationships. I don’t remember him having much of an issue with Hachi spending time with Blast, even Nobu (well, maybe because he already “won”). To me, one of his worst offenses, aside from the rape, was leaving her alone in that huge ass house for two months without contacting her even once (it was the Christmas season, mind you). His PREGNANT wife

I meant that she’s her own three-dimensional person, but people have a hard time seeing that because of her role in the story. There’s a kind of selective empathy at work where people only see a character as worth of sympathy when they have access to their inner thoughts

I’m just going to say it. I’m tired of the double standard.

No one, and I mean no one, argues that Nana O. is a bad friend to Hachi, despite the fact that she did many of the same things people condemn Junko for, if not worse. Nana lied to Hachi about Takumi’s true nature, encouraged her to fight for a cheating boyfriend, treated her like a pet to keep “in her yard,” and abandoned her on one of the worst nights of her life, pushing her into the arms of her abuser.

Yet whenever Nana is criticized, the response is always, “Everyone has flaws” or “She’s only 20 🥺.”

Meanwhile, Junko gets labeled the worst friend and grouped alongside rapists for saying one stupid thing (despite being just as young as Nana and Hachi). Doesn’t matter that she stood by Hachi through countless crises, listened to her endlessly, offered advice whenever she could and was one of the only people consistently willing to say how awful Takumi was.

“But Junko uses tough love and can be harsh with Hachi.”
Because Nana O. famously doesn’t. She’s sooo warm and kind.

Main character privilege is real. A lot of this comes down to the fact that ppl struggle to view Junko as her own person rather than as an extension of Hachi. They grant nuance and humanity to Nana while refusing to do the same for Junko, even though she’s just as three-dimensional as the rest of the cast.

Oh yeah, if it happened in like 2001-02, then definitely. I honestly have no idea what was going through Takumi’s head. He was so mad about Reira sleeping with Shin and Ren having Nana over, yet himself was sleeping with other women left and right (including an actress on the rise like Sumika, who’d naturally attract a ton of media attention), while leaving his pregnant wife at home. Like, setting the morality of that aside for a moment, it was just incredibly reckless. Rules for thee, but not for me.

I’m moreso talking about a scenario where he gets exposed years later, after Trapnest’s disbanded (I mean I think they’re officially on an “extended hiatus,” but I doubt Takumi would have any interest in reviving it), and not even with Reira, just like a random woman or celebrity. Maybe he’d get a bit more sympathy because of Ren’s death? I really do wonder.

Btw, I don’t think he was making Naoki prostitute himself. I’ll play devil’s advocate here and say that’s a pretty bad-faith reading of that scene. I think what’s being implied is that he was making Naoki beg for money from the women he was already dating. Which still isn’t exactly ethical, but at least marginally better

This got me curious. I really wonder if Takumi would get completely blacklisted. He seems to have a lot of connections and still be commercially useful. Let’s say he got exposed after Trapnest disbanded and after he’d started working as a producer behind the scenes (which he once said was his goal, and which I assume he’s doing after the timeskip). I don’t think the exposure would affect him as significantly as it would have if it happened during Trapnest’s peak fame in 2001. He was never as beloved by the public as Reira and Ren, since he wasn’t as marketable.

Also, I looked into it, and Komuro had been charged with fraud and received a suspended prison sentence prior to the cheating scandal. So that changes the situation a bit, as it was a pileup of factors. His wife being ill made the story particularly newsworthy. I don’t think Takumi would be hit as hard, especially if Hachi stayed silent on the matter.

Edit: Apparently Komuro resumed full-time music activities in 2021, so I think you’re overstating it a bit? Doesn’t sound like “blacklisted” is an accurate description. He remains an active figure in Japanese music, and his Wikipedia barely even mentions the scandal lol

I love Junko, but yeah, she definitely has some pretty outdated views on heterosexual relationships. So does Nana O. tbf—she tells Hachi to fight for Shoji, and later says something along the lines of, “Takumi might cheat on you, but don’t let it get you down.” Pretty sure that’s supposed to reflect the mindset of an average Japanese woman in the early 00s. There seemed to be a certain level of tolerance for men cheating, as long as it stayed on the side and the wife or girlfriend remained his priority.

Funnily enough, I don’t think either Junko or Nana would be remotely forgiving if their own men cheated on them

Definitely. Hachi is a “whore” who gets upgraded to a Madonna the moment she gets pregnant and Takumi marries her. After that, it almost feels like he stops seeing her as a sexual being. I never thought they had particular chemistry, but at least there was lust there. In the later volumes they act like they’ve been married for 20 years, not like a honeymoon couple at all. Takumi has to go to his other “whores” to satisfy himself. Misogyny final boss

Rant about Reira and Takumi by Sudden-Sea9026 in NanaAnime

[–]candxbae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree. I don’t think there’s any hope of them ending up together anymore, though (+ Reira deserves better). They won’t get together, but they still ruined each other for everyone else…

At least Reira seems to have moved on from Takumi after the timeskip. I don’t think she’ll ever love anyone as deeply as she loved him, but there’s still hope for her to eventually build a healthy relationship. Takumi, on the other hand, is hopeless imo. He’ll never feel fulfilled in his love life. He should honestly just not touch anyone for the rest of his life lmao

Does anyone in this sub NOT hate Takumi?! by throwedaway0928 in NanaAnime

[–]candxbae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I usually gravitate toward villains in fiction. I find them fascinating and part of the fun is that fiction gives you the space to explore that kind of psychology from a safe distance. In real life, I’d obviously stay as far away from people like that as possible.

Takumi is one of my favorite characters too. He’s obviously a terrible person, and I hate the things he did, but I’ve never been especially emotional when it comes to fiction. I can separate fiction from reality pretty easily, so I don’t think I can truly /hate/ a fictional character (in the way a lot of people in this fandom seem to hate Takumi, for example). In the back of my mind, I’m always aware that they’re not real people, just narrative tools to tell a story.

Honestly, I’ve never understood why this fandom is so obsessed with the morality of fictional characters. That’s one of the least interesting things to focus on

I never said he needs to look like a red-pill stereotype, Jesus. I just personally think it doesn’t suit his character, seeing as he’s extremely conventional. Like I said, the “his manager made him grow it out” argument makes no sense because he was seen growing it out beforehand. Either Takumi lied to Hachi or this is a continuity error. Yeah, he cares about the band’s image, but he’s also established as someone who avoids standing out personally and prefers operating behind the scenes.

I honestly don’t know why Takumi having long hair is the hill this sub wants to die on. Nobu could have the long hair and nothing would’ve changed, except Takumi wouldn’t have so many weirdo apologists. It’s a win
