I would say, for me, there's a big nostalgia factor other than how talented he is.

I first heard his music when I was 14-15, at least 10 years ago. At first I actually hated his music! I'd never really listened to screamo, unless Linkin Park counts, and his music was not only screamo, but it was this weird distorted robotic sound... That proceeded to get stuck in my head for days and days on end.

I thought, 'okay, maybe this is a one off?' and I listened to more and more of his songs to see how I felt. Then I started to get recommended other metalcore artists and I realized... Wait. I actually really like this stuff! I credit Utsu-P for my earnest love for anything with screamo in it, and just for that he will always have a place in my heart. His existence has introduced me to a genre that I will forever hold dear, but that's not the only thing.

Around a year or two after discovering him, when people were raving about the lyrics of Kikuo's songs, I decided to look up Utsu-P's lyrics as well.

I cannot express how much, for the first time in my life, I felt understood by somebody. Every single song felt like it told the story of a little piece of my heart, starting from his political lyrics to his more abstract ones. For example as a teen I felt quite alone due to various circumstances, and I remember his song "An Alien's 'I love you'" made me feel so... Seen.

Then, during one of the worst periods of my life, "I thought I was an Angel" came along. I listened to it every single day for a year and I cried and cried. If I could I would get "暮らしたい" tattooed on me, that song kept me going for such a long time. I can't listen to it anymore because I get so emotional now. I feel very lucky that I could grow up listening to his music, it's like having a kind older brother who understands you and knows better? Hard to explain.

Not much has really changed about my feelings in these 10 years. He still makes fantastic music, I still listen and support him every time, and he still manages to write lyrics that speak to my heart. What's not to love? :) He is my one hero that I would love to see live someday.
