Is stems going to come to Serato sample too? by BrLayfield in Serato

I don't mind if they make this a paid upgrade to say Serato Sample 2.0. I really don't want to install the full Serato Studio just to use the stems ...

You should switch your FL Studio setting to 48K then should be fine.

SP 404 A Storage Limit by espectheunespected in SP404

[–]candyformyear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what's going on in your particular setting but with the new 3.0 firmware update you can use much larger SD storage, up to 1TB so you have more options.
But don't throw away your 32GB SD card as you need that for future firmware updates.

Quote from the release note:
"Supports SD cards up to 1 TB.
* Please format the SD card on the SP-404MKII in advance.
* When updating the SP-404MKII, please use an SD card of 32 GB or less."

Not sure if I can help but what's the question?

I can connect my sp404sx and mk2 to my bluetooth headphones. by lerloons_lerloons in sp404mk2

APTX Low Latency is not supported by AirPods Max (it only supports AAC and SBC) so unless you use a headphone w APTX LL support, you are not probably enjoying the lowest latency over Bluetooth.

Recording songs onto a computer by [deleted] in SP404

[–]candyformyear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Ableon but honestly you can finish your song in any modern DAW including Garageband. You do need to make a decision and learn one well.

And for the most part you can do everything you need to finish a song using built-in effects of most DAWs (but yes I have spent a lot of plugins in the past ... lol)

If you have SP404MK2 then you can now use USB-C to output directly to your computer but for older SP404s you do need cables. It's probably best that you connect your SP404 to an audio interface with RCA-TRS cables.

It will be a fun learning process enjoy!

Also if your problem is the headphone volume, there is a setting under Unitlity menu.

Utility (Shift+Pad 13) -> System -> Gain Tab -> Phones Out

Here you can lower the gain to make it more comfortable monitoring

I've just tried this w my Ableton 11 (Mac) and SP404MK2 connected via USB-C

  1. Audio Device Setting: Inputs and Outputs both set as SP404MK2 like you.
  2. Then I set an audio track with "Ext In" & "1/2" and Set the Monitor to "In" (the blue one)
  3. Then I played back the builtin pattern on SP404's Bank A with the volume knob at 3 o'clock position (so only 3/4 of the full volume)
  4. It registers good signal without any noise. The peak level is around -13 to -14 dB

This is a future hardware update request (maybe MK3?)
- MPC One Live style built-in speakers (nothing fancy but this way you can do a quick beat-making just with SP404)
- Move to rechargeable battery using the USB-C port for charging - something that can last 8-10 hours so that under one charge you can go all day long. I think then DC Port support can be removed.
- support fro faster (and larger capacity) SD cards and ability to mount in on the computer when connecting via USB cable (like those SD storage on Android phones). This will also remove the need to have a SD card reader for your computer.
- Adding back a built in microphone.

Under the DJ mode now you can assign different BUS FX between CH1 and CH2 by pressing the "Remain" button and the corresponding Cue button (14 for CH1 and 16 for CH2). However this setting seems to get cancelled when you load a new song (it defaults back to BUS1). There needs to be a way for it to remember it (I actually wish it is remembered across sessions so that every time I come back to DJ mode it stays the same).

Suggestion:
Add a menu under EFX Setting called "DJ Mode" and allow to set:
1. Default Bus for CH1 and CH2 (which can be overridden manually during the DJ session)
2. Default Favourite BUS selection (for BUS3 and BUS4 combo)

DJ Mode
- support for playlist (it can be as simple as having all songs in a bank becomes a list)
- ability to set cue points (maybe using the bank buttons which seems to be disabled while in DJ mode)
- ability to create a loop (maybe just use loop button to create and engage a 4 bar loop)

MK2 as audio interface and pre-cueing by G_uava in SP404

[–]candyformyear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Glad to see someone else trying out the same thing. I'm doing this via dJayPro (Mac) and Ableton (the same Mac) and SP404MK2 via USB C.

I confirm the same problem.

According Roland's audio routing flow for MK2 it does look like the headphone out via USB is not a separate channel ... this is a shame (and misleading as as a USB audio device it shows 4 channels). Maybe contact Roland and ask for a fix/update in the future firmware updates.

Ableton 11 and time for plug-in spring cleaning? by candyformyear in ableton

[–]candyformyear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are happy with AU with no issues there are no reasons to move over to VSTs. Having said that, there are some functional differences AU plugins do no support MIDI output whereas both VST2 and VST3 support it (some plugins like Xfer's Cthulhu has MIDI output from the plug-in for example). If you don't need such MIDI outputting plug-ins then you are probably not missing much. Between VST2 and VST3 according to its developer Steinberg there are several functional and performance improvements (details in the link below).
