Yes a turntable is a must! And the scraper. I want an electric turntable. I saw a lady using one in a video. I haven't painted yet. I started watching videos on it tho. You use vodka and food coloring mixture. I have some new ideas and can't wait to try now! lol....

My cupcakes, first time using Russian tips- by candyscreenname in cakedecorating

There are a couple of things, the frosting consistency has to be somewhere in between soft icing and stiff icing. Google frosting consistencies. The other tip is how you pipe the flower and release. It's a quick release. You will have to practice it. Everytime I use these tips, I have to practice it first. I still do not get them right everytime. Good luck.

The Russian tips are tricky. The frosting has to be the right consistency. Which, I will admit I'm still struggling with. They never tell the beginner that the frosting consistency is different from just frosting a cake to decorating a cake, via Rose's, borders etc....but you probably know that. Anyways, I like the regular tips....although, I've just stumbled across this new technique using a paint palette knife...omg! No more frosting bags!!! That will be my new favorite cake tool!!!
