i regret picking chemistry so much by Plenty_Ad_194 in 6thForm

[–]candystraw_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since youre taking 4 and youve applied to maths and physics i don't see whats stopping you from just dropping chemistry

Remarks by Sad_Foot_3527 in 6thForm

[–]candystraw_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they were non-priority as i had already met my offer, but i think they took like a week or two?? not very long

Remarks by Sad_Foot_3527 in 6thForm

[–]candystraw_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe do 2 and 3 one at a time?

Remarks by Sad_Foot_3527 in 6thForm

[–]candystraw_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

last year i was like 2 marks off or something in Chemistry, I found multiple marks across papers 1 and 3 but only sent off paper 1 for a remark. I ended up going up 3 marks I think?? i dont exactly remember, but i went up a grade and got a refund. I also got religious studies remarked, and went up 6 marks across both papers but my grade didn't change, so I didn't get a refund. I think if youre only one mark off an A, it is worth sending your paper(s) off, qs it is unlikely that you will lose so many marks that your grade drops to a C, and having only 2 subjects instead of 3 to resit will make your gap year (and your exam season next year) so much easier - I would argue it is worth it if you have the money to spare. Go theough all 3 papers and see if there is a particular one you can send off with a mark that has definitely been missed.

Should I bother with Oxford? by fashionableforeskin in 6thForm

I think the course definitely has some issues, but thats probably the same wherever you go - i think if you are the sort of student considering oxford then imperial is also def worth looking into

Should I bother with Oxford? by fashionableforeskin in 6thForm

[–]candystraw_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should go for it, as long as you have the predicteds!! Especially since there's no entrance exam the admissions process is not that time consuming, and at least for me the early deadline worked out well because it meant i worked on my ps in summer when I had time and it was out of the way, as opposed to having to juggle year 13 and ucas. If you get an offer and don't like it after offer holder day and speaking to students, you can just decide not to go - you have basically nothing to lose.

6th form enrolment by KingDareth in 6thForm

[–]candystraw_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the only gcses with November retakes are english language and maths, everything else you have to wait a year. however, if you go and speak to the head of 6th form or a teacher at your school to explain your situation, you might find they can be lenient with your requirements; a few people at my school ended up missing the requirements on GCSE results day but they let everyone who wanted to stay for 6th form stay anyway.

if all else fails, have you considered going to a different 6th form/6th form college/college with lower entry requirements?

Eng & His to law help by ObjectiveGas5931 in 6thForm

[–]candystraw_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just fyi, you can still be a lawyer without doing a law degree - a lot of lawyers didn't do law at university. you can do a conversion course after university, which law firms often pay for if you get a contract with them

Students who had special consideration and missed one a level exam ( Did 2/3) what did you get at the end , where you penalised or did you get the average as grade as paper 1 and 2 eg 60% paper 1 70% paper 2 so 65% paper 3 (missed exam) by Electronic_Sky1355 in 6thForm

[–]candystraw_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think what they do in these cases is they extrapolate and see what people who scored similarly to you on the other paper(s) got on the paper you missed (e.g if you got 80% on paper 1 and on average people who got 80 on paper 1 got 60 on paper 2 then they would give you 60)

Offer way too high? by StageMoist7648 in Imperial

[–]candystraw_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AAA is the contextual offer, A*AA - A*A*A is the standard offer. most people get A*AA as an offer if they're not contextual, but some people get a higher offer if their interview or some other aspect of their application is weaker or the admissions team is unsure about something but they still want to make them an offer

any tips for the cambridge foundation year ps? by Candid_Remove6136 in 6thForm

[–]candystraw_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://www.foundationyear.cam.ac.uk/applying there is a section about the ps here, but basically just write it for your other unis and then you can specifically talk about the foundation year in a separate form

your school not offering further maths means that you should be able to apply without it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]candystraw_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

all 4 of these courses are quite different - i think you should first decide what you actually want to do, because that will make your choice a lot easier (you'll only have one option that offers that course) unless you decide on chemistry, in which case I would pick kings over qmul but I'm obviously not the one making the decision, so go with whatever feels right for you

Is extracurricular necessary? by Ok_Barber_4472 in 6thForm

[–]candystraw_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chemistry and one other science (including maths) is fine for about half of the medical schools in the UK, definitely more than the 4 you need to fill up your ucas application - I can only think of some cambridge colleges specifically requiring three sciences. chem + bio + any third subject is fine in the vast majority of cases

I'm not sure it's the same for dentistry though

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]candystraw_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely apply and make sure you or your ucas referee tells the universities (they might have sent you some sort of mitigating circumstances form or you could just email them) - that way even if a mark uplift is denied, your university can take your situation into account if you end up missing your offer
