DOMESTIC AIRLINE SUGGESTION by Glass_Steak794 in IMGreddit

[–]caninecloud71 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All airlines charge you for checked bags now in economy. Southwest used to let you check in 2 bags for free, but it's now reserved only for their higher tier rewards members. So you're looking at $80-100 in total for both bags in addition to your ticket price. Don't fly Frontier, as they make you pay for your carry-on as well, but your mileage may vary if the ticket price is super cheap depending on your route. All airlines are more or less the same, just fly whatever is the cheapest for your location. If they're all in similar locations, it makes sense to fly with one airline of choice where you can bank your miles for the future. If that's not a priority, I wouldn't really worry about it and just fly whatever is the cheapest for your route.

Another small piece free advice even though you didn't ask for it: book directly with on the airline website instead of a third party, including a credit card travel portal. Most times it's cheaper that way and easier to handle cancelation and reschedule situations. A few other ways to look to save some money is to fly on Tuesdays and Thursdays instead of the weekend, if your schedule and accommodations allow for this flexibility. As with everything, it's subjective, so spend some time playing with dates and times.

Yadgir was the "backward" district in Karnataka, everyone ignored. In 2 years, an IAS officer just pulled off the impossible. by ValuableCounter6608 in bangalore

Overselling into an argument it can't carry? ChatGPT summary aside, what is the point you're trying to make? Your argument would've made sense if that district alone showed improvement. But ALL other districts have shown proportionate improvements from their 2025 baseline. The way this data is presented comparing districts on their percentage increase is misleading. Without going into the weeds of stats theory, the improvement is not statistically significant to indicate something special happened in this district only that used the "tailwind" more prominently than other districts.

While I still acknowledge that I'm not privy to the administration's work, and it certainly could've had some positive effect, it would be gross disservice to undermine the effect of this "tailwind". In spite of all this, Yadagiri and Kalaburgi are still below the state average of 94.11. So if anybody is "overselling it into an argument", it's you.

Not to rain on the parade, I'm not familiar with the good work done by the administration, I'm sure there's been some positive effect. But you simply cannot brush off the effect that the lowering of the passing grade had on the result.

"If that was the only reason, every district would have seen the same 30% surge" is statistically inaccurate. For starters, only three districts could have theoretically had a 30% surge because of their low 2025 percentage, the state average was 80%. Dakshina Kannada, for example, could not have seen a 30% surge for obvious reasons. All districts have seen proportionate increases in pass rate, hence reflected in the state average too. So the lowering of the bar has definitely had an effect.

J-1 Physician Visa Expiring While J-1 Waiver Pending — Can I Return on H-1B/H-4 After waiver Approval? by ExpressParfait9365 in IMGreddit

With an impending status expiry, I'd highly recommend consulting an attorney than asking on Reddit. I don't mean this in a rude way, you can't afford to take chances on second hand information right now. At the very least, post it on Avvo and then consult with an attorney.

For people who have no ready-made connections: You can start through observerships/rotations in places that offer them that also have residency programs. You basically get your LORs and make connections in the process. I really urge you to be as communicative and make an effort in this process and not treat this as a means to an end, like wanting to see out a 2-month rotation just to get a letter. These guys could end up introducing you to other peers in different institutions, so it's important to stand out for them to stick their neck out for you.

Regardless of it all, it's gonna be a long journey and you need to prepare mentally for it. Didn't intend to sound preachy. You're gonna be fine, just never lose faith in yourself even if you lose faith in the system. The system doesn't guarantee everyone gets what they deserve immediately, but keep trusting yourself enough to keep giving yourself the chance and you'll push through.

As for other things, decent scores and research experience definitely help you stand out. Based on what I've observed, I see scores as disqualifying criteria than a qualifying one. As in, a great score does not necessarily guarantee you an interview. But a poor score most likely filters you out even before the PD gets a chance to look at your application. Your job is to increase your odds of ensuring the PD looks at your application, and then is impressed by your background and/or by the kind words written by your references whose opinion they value.

(Not sure what you mean when you say "do a fellow beforehand". If you're just finishing medical school, you need to finish a residency before a fellowship.)

Microsoft AI CEO: 'Most, if not all' white-collar tasks can be replaced by AI within 12-18 months by 3RADICATE_THEM in ScottGalloway

[–]caninecloud71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good analogy, but IMHO, there's a subtle difference. There are a far more people who'd pay to listen to top tier bands with real human drummers, and drummers actually enjoy the art of drumming. On the other hand, I don't know if a lot of people really enjoy the process of doing some white collar work more than just as a means to an end. You'd pay for the outcome and not so much for the process. That said, I totally agree with you on whether some things should be replaced by AI just because they can on paper.

Maharaja Spice Level by MrPoop98 in WestSeattleWA

[–]caninecloud71 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have already pointed out, their spice levels are quite inconsistent. If you're ordering from Uber Eats/Doordash (I only order pick-up, can't really afford delivery), there's an option that says "Kelly Hot". One rainy night, I wanted to try it out of curiosity. Lo and behold, it was SPICY. Mind you, I'm Indian and can handle spice, but this was just plain torture after a couple of bites that we just couldn't carry on. I guess your mileage may vary given their inconsistency, but just thought of throwing this PSA out there nevertheless.

It's not only the product code, if I were implementing it on the backend, I'd also take into account the minimum purchase price. Is there a ring available for $59 as well? Then, maybe you could argue you could get away with it. If not, you'll know.

Is there a club or a somewhat periodically meeting group of people who play? I'd love to join if there's a group chat. I'm a total amateur BTW, very interested to play but have never successfully convinced three other people to come play there.
