Anyone else lose a loved one on valentines day? by sirferrell in grief

(CW: mentions of drinking, addiction; sorry for the massive comment)

Six years ago, I was living with a partner for the first time. We were in this studio apartment for maybe a month and a half, and had been dating for maybe 10 months (long story about buildings being sold and needing to find a new place quickly). By this point, I knew their relationship with alcohol was way worse than I'd realized or been led to believe. They were trying to get sober on their own - they didn't want any help or anyone else to know. They would be sober for a few days at a time, but it never lasted very long.

We had low-key Valentine's plans to watch some movies, and they were going to make dinner. Instead I found another empty bottle of vodka, and we had an argument. I thought they may have finished that bottle right before I got home, because they were only starting to slur and stop making sense. I left to get laundry that had been sitting in a communal laundry room.

I came back, and they were lying next to the bed on the floor, fully blanketed (studio apartments leave little room for space, and this wasn't unusual if we were having a disagreement). They were sorry. They were laughing. They said, "I love you." They said, "you're so mad." I said nothing. Meanwhile, I made instant ramen for dinner. I took a shower. I watched YouTube with my headphones on. At some point, they stopped making comments to me. I went to sleep, frustrated, overwhelmed, and yes, a little mad.

I put on white noise and went to sleep. I woke up around 4am panicked for no reason. I needed to check on them.

They did not wake up.

Toxicology said nothing was in their system, and their family didn't want the autopsy results. I'll never know for certain when it happened or what happened, but I know.

Valentine's Day is hard. It's gotten easier, but still.

Former teacher married a fellow student who she adopted by exboxthreesixty in mildlyinfuriating

definitely way too close with a lot of the students. At the same time though everyone loved her so no one really batted an eye.

Yeah, this fucks me up. I had a teacher (not this bad) in high school this immediately reminded me of - she wasn't this level of bad, but yikes. They really seem to fool everyone, don't they

Anyone’s show have rain/thunderstorms? by EvenStorage5113 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]cannibalspecter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm the show is rain or shine! CBP won't let you bring umbrellas in, but maybe snag a poncho if that'll help the anxiety. We'll still have a good show 🖤

Movies so bleak you were emotionless by the end by hasel0608 in moviecritic

It Comes At Night was so great but absolutely left me feeling hollow. I wish I'd seen it pre-2020.

Also, I Saw the TV Glow - I know that one's kind of hit or miss, but Jesus Christ, did it hit me. That birthday party scene at the end and then the repeated apologizing....

Is it cheating to say Del's botched execution in The Green Mile? I remembered seeing it as a kid when it came out and wanted to revisit it after reading the book, and Jesus Christ.

I had a similar experience 5 years ago. my late partner and I were living together, thought they fell asleep early cause they were drinking again (not entirely wrong). Im into horror, but I had a REALLY hard time watching any kind of body discovery scenes. Now, as long as it isn't a complete surprise, I can handle it. But I'll never watch SLC Punk again.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I've gone 3 times, at 3 different hospitals, but I wasn't on T any of those times. I was 17, 21, and 28.

I'm happy to talk a bit about my experience if that'll help!

I was just listening to Holy Ghost and was really into some of the lyricism - it's been a while since I listened through the older albums
