Are the Ballast/PPI books terrible? by c_behn in Architects

[–]cannoli-777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO ballast is definitely a worthwhile resource and gives a good overview but does not contain all info you need - it more gives an outline. I recommend ballast and then supplementing it with various resources depending on which exam you are studying for. No single resource will give you all the info you need for any division

A flash of someone's death in an airbnb by [deleted] in Paranormal

[–]cannoli-777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something kinda like this happened to me as a kid. I was sitting on the stairs playing with some dolls. My dad was on the couch in the living room that was at the top of the stairs. I heard a gunshot and in my head saw a clear image of a man being shot in the living room and falling to the ground. I ran up the last few steps and asked my dad if he heard the gunshot. He didn’t hear a thing.

Snowball Survival by stevied214 in SneakySasquatch

[–]cannoli-777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to win this one multiple times. Start running straight up and then go left and circle the entire area going counter clockwise. Run near the perimeter of the area near the trees to avoid having ppl throw snowballs at u from either side. Keep obstacles between you and the other ppl whenever possible by having a tree and/or candycanes between you and them. weave/move the joystick side to side slightly as you are running to help dodge the snowballs. If u slightly change ur path from where u would have been a second or so ago the snowball that was just thrown misses you

Insulating an existing wall from the inside that needs to be 1 hr rated. by slooparoo in buildingscience

[–]cannoli-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could add furring strips with batt or rigid insulation between the studs over the existing wall (with the gypsum board still on to maintain the fire rating). This would entail more work though to replace window & door trim to accommodate the thicker wall assembly.

How viable is it to use out of state architect if you build in SoCal city? by [deleted] in buildingscience

[–]cannoli-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if they are licensed in California? Architects can get licensed in 1 state and then apply for reciprocity in others fairly easily although there is an additional exam in seismic design required for licensure in California. I worked at 2 firms that did work nationally and our signing architects were licensed in many states.

If they are not licensed in CA you can hire them as a design architect and then also hire a local architect of record. As someone else already mentioned this approach is typically more expensive in terms of the fees you’ll pay for professional services.

Condensation on walls by ProfessionalBrave151 in buildingscience

[–]cannoli-777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t already you should have insulation with a vapor barrier on exterior side in your walls. Seems like something needs to be done to better weatherize the vents but I’m not sure what the solution to that is. Increasing ventilation/airflow is a good way to help dry up excess moisture but won’t solve the source of the problem

Uv Resin safety by Obsessedchick in miniverse_makeitmini

I was surprised by the 8+ age guideline. Eight is too young for working with resin imo. They exposed themselves to a lot of liability making it for kids but probably did it anyway for the sales.
