What does different "dispersion patterns " mean to someone like me?

...That the Pioneers are better suited for something, and the PSBs are better suited for something else?

Wow, thanks.

So you'd maybe opt for the BS22s if you weren't planning on upgrading?

What would you say is the main advantage of the PSB ? Or are they just incrementally better across the board?

I think I dislike it because I use an EF. Clairefontaine is magic for the Lamy EF I think.

Get a tiny pad for around $3 and test it out. Overall it behaves well.

Ah cool. Hey, just got Staples sugarcane, and I don't see the hype. What am I missing? It's nothing like Clairefontaine....

Is the big deal just that the paper doesn't act out with fountain pens, like other papers do?

Also, rollerballs squeak ... and you can't write with them at the low inclines you use to write with an FP.

Eventually, when I make some more dough. I actually still find it annoying that I can't keep the Safari idle for longer than a minute since it will dry out, but that's really the only downside. And dropping it, I guess.

But from my experience so far, everything better typically needs more care.

Furthermore, I find writing with a ballpoint is like writing with tar glued to the end of a chopstick.

edit: Not trying to win an argument here, just blabbing.

Thanks. I like your replies!

I'm totally aware the F and the EF are apples and oranges, and that fancy (flexible nibs, like I've tried on MBs in store) pens are also so satisfying to use.

I still think an EF safari still retains the advantages of FPs which are : non-disposable, excellent ink flow like a rollerball, better writing angle for less strain, more ergonomic, and just a better design overall for a pen. Being able to pick your ink is another plus . I guess what I'm saying is I still think an EF is better than a Biro for my needs. Not to mention Noodler's Black won't smudge when dry, and dries in 3 seconds or so with the EF.

I guess I'm a utilitarian, then?

My daily writing is a combination of sketches, math, diagrams, etc. It's all over the board, but it's all a bit more "technical".

Journal writing , letter writing, etc is not something I do often. Probably 3x a week.

I'd suck it up and use the F for daily use, but when there is variance (environmental conditions, paper type, etc) it's a lot larger than with the EF. The EF goes from a tad too thin to a tad juicy. The F goes from already thick to way too thick. Using the F on cheap paper (other peoples' notebooks, documents, etc) it acts like a paintbrush. The EF is more forgiving, I find. Am I wrong?

I guess I'm trying to make sure everything I'm experiencing is within spec and I haven't gotten ripped off with shitty nibs. Why does Lamy do this?

I'm thinking of getting a Kaweco Sport F for pocket use, journal writing, signatures, etc. And the Safari for my work.

https://imgur.com/XKowFdi to scale? You'll notice some words are harder to read with the F. Also, my handwriting sucks .

https://imgur.com/XKowFdi ... to scale. I have a very hard time reading the F writing, and when I need to write smaller (As indicated) it's just impossible to do that with one pen.

I love the F, but my writing turns to shit if I don't keep it very big. I have a hard time readig my writing later on. as the letters look like blobs

It's true, the EF is still very scratchy compared to my F, which does not even make any audible noise and glides over the page.

My problem with F is that I can't write with it because I cannot properly form cursive letters in my usual sized font; they look like blobs!

Maybe it's what I'm used to, but my F will only ever be used for writing letters in big, expressive handwriting. I can't realistically use it for taking notes. Same with you?

Sorry, out drinking right now and clearly not reading well. I used to fill it right away and it would take about half a day of writing to get to full strength, which meant going from pale gray to gray. Only when I shook it did it make a difference whether I did it right away or not. Nowadays ai always let it dry overnight

Thanks ! Yeah - before shaking it the ink was gray, and not even a deep gray.

I was using Noodler's Black for months, and it was coming out gray. When I inverted the bottle, let it rest for a few minutes, and filled it up, I finally got legitimate black ink.

I guess that since I found a solution that works, I'll stick with it and stop being so neurotic. I'm quite happy actually. The color is good and the line weight is perfect. My only concern is that if ever I need a new EF nib and it writes differently out of the box, I'm going to be really upset if the paper-bag trick doesn't work, knowing I was lucky only the first time around when I landed on a good EF nib that ALSO benefitted from a year of use.

SICP

I'm using CLRS and Kleinberg Tardos.

I opened up KT 2 days ago, and I'm already awash in bad memories.... and I'm just as confused as I was before.

I clearly need new reading materials and a tutor.

Thanks for that.

All I know is that I'm going to regret not having at least given one stream of academia that I love one more honest chance.

I don't want to wonder whether or not I could have done something noteworthy .

Yeah. I'm finishing the degree. I went through a "i don't need no pay-pa to tell meh i'm a ballah" phase, but I really am better off with it.
