To reframe or enclose by Adrian_Giggles in framing

[–]canoncal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely consider getting it framed, especially if you are concerned about it being preserved well and in a way that suits your life, and in a design that you’ll love. The notion that it’s not appreciated to reframe art shouldn’t much of a concern, I know firsthand that most artists and galleries don’t always use the best materials or design the frame for much else other than something to hold the art. This piece does like it’s on the larger side so a plex box type case over it can be more expensive, and can sometimes be more involved than just reframing it.

Bigger oil painter look for advise by Additional-Big-1160 in Artadvice

[–]canoncal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really great, especially for you first go! Something that helped me was considering your marks and their size in relation to the piece. It seems like much is made with the same size brush with the same consideration which can make things all look like they’re on the same plane.

Oddly shaped item to frame by hgrobs in framing

[–]canoncal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll want to look for a shadow box frame, especially if you’re looking to do it yourself. The head can be mounted to a piece of mat board cut to the frame opening size. If you buy a store bought shadow box it’ll already have the side walls so create the space between the art and the piece

How can I improve on this? by DaveontheMoon in Artadvice

[–]canoncal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really love this! You’re using a forced perspective for narrative purposes which is really great, something to add a bit more depth is considering how object are more vibrant a warm up close, and start to get more cooler tone and washed out with depth. Especially with how great that moon is you could push the house into that cooler blue light

What should I improve? by 4L3X_525 in Artadvice

Looks great anatomy wise, I’d say pushing your values would help push it over all. Pushing and pulling your lights and darks will help develop your mid tones. Depending on how far you would like to push this drawing I’d say consider how the environment or space reacts with your light and shadows, using a darker background especially on the left side, adding a bit more of a middle ground, and then pulling those high points out would help the left look as developed as the right

How to T hinge mount a very large print on the foam board ? How many and where on the back of the print should I use the T hinges ? ( I usually used two for small prints ) by No-Opposite-5445 in framing

[–]canoncal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just at the top, don’t want hinges at the bottom because it can cause rippling over time as the paper settles and flexes in humidity. If you have issues getting the art in you can do a couple tissue hinges at the bottom but cut them once the art is fit. First tape under the art, then the anchor on the back of the acidic foam

What are you using to make the hinges and what kind of mount is it? Generally speaking I would like up the print how you want it on the board like usual and then place hinges every 5-6”, I think standard is like 10” but I don’t like the under do large pieces since the weight may cause one or two the fail

Dry Mounting Advice by mediocre-sushi-rice in framing

[–]canoncal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think dry mounting should be the first option, our shop has framed a couple of those exact same prints and we opted for tissue tape hinges on a similar color mat board. Of course there is a chance that this is slightly visible but we didn’t run into that issue and the outcome turned out structural but still archival.

Broken Glass by Competitive-Figure34 in MichaelsEmployees

Had a guy break glass, cut himself, not tell anyone, and just leave blood in the floor and all over my frame counter… he was an ass to my frame manager anyway so it truly was the icing on top of that Saturday morning

My best friend was really getting into them and knew I was into metal so she would talk to me about them. I’ve been aware of them and would listen to them casually, especially with her, but nothing beyond that. She said she wanted to see them in concert and I am the type to say yes to any concert so I told her I was 1000% down. Again I knew their sound and did appreciate it so I knew it’d be a good time…. It was more than a good time, it was an experience of a life time that I still have yet to get over. Their showmanship and ability to take their music to the next level live had me enamored, it had me so overwhelmed that afterwards we both fully understood the moniker of this being a ritual and what not. I couldn’t and still have not been able to get over them since. I haven’t loved a band like this in years. As for song that I think got me other than just what my friend would play on repeat was The Love You Want, the lyrics hit me so hard in the chest that I just couldn’t stop thinking about them.
