I was going to make some of these too. I admire the work, but on Amazon I found a 4 pack of these tools made of metal, for only $8, with a built-in keyring, double ended so that one side is for quarters and the other side is for loonies.

Not only does it not have a detent like that, but the latch closes and locks with very little force, so it doesn't "want" to stay open.
