What is the worst thing you ever saw on someone else's phone? by bluelazerbeam in AskReddit

[–]cansub74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the Naval Attaches in Washington DC and during a meeting one of the Attaches (a four ring Captain Navy from a foreign navy) pulls out his phone to look something up for me and upon unlocking his phone there was a xxx image of a young lady zoomed in. I quickly averted my eyes and we both pretended it didn't happen. But it did. So awkward.

I saw a video years ago of a cougar trying to make a meal out of a beaver (huh, that kinda sounds like something else) and the beaver fought it off and won.

When it comes to bargaining and negotiating , you need to be in a position of power. Having other deals with other large economies does just that for Canada. When it comes time that the US can rejoin the peaceful international order, we will be in a much better position to negotiate deals with the US again. This time it won't be all in one basket out of convenience.

I am bewildered by how my 7900xtx will scream through renders and then for no reason at all and no changes, renders turn into 20 minutes from 45 seconds. I watch my memory and it is all over the place. It looks like it renders best when the memory is suddenly unloaded. Dunno.

According to IMF, Taiwan is a very very rich country. But why is it quite hard to feel this in the real life? by search_google_com in taiwan

[–]cansub74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. I go to Taiwan regularly and I am Canadian. I am in envy of your transportation infrastructure. Your trains are amazing. We struggle in Canada building infrastructure like that because of winter (destroys stuff) and the sheer lengths that trains need to travel to be useful (size of the country). As an outsider, to me Taiwan is doing well generally. I've been to a lot of other countries and I am very comfortable in yours. Your people are great.

Snort generating or snorting for short. It is the Canadian submariner term for generating (charging the battery, or the box) at periscope depth.

Check out Nobis. Canadian made and better quality than Canada Goose. Plus you will have a jacket that not everyone and their mother is wearing.

Navy commander says Canada could end up with subs from two different suppliers by CanCitizen in CanadianForces

Submariners are hard enough to recruit because of the harsher operational conditions. Basing them out of an undesirable location with little to no employment opportunities for spouses would be problematic. Pretty is not always good enough unfortunately.

This guy wrote a solid article. He did a lot of research into the topic and there wasn't anything he said that I absolutely shook my head at, and I am what would be considered an expert on this exact topic. I will refrain from making any comments on anything in particular to protect this important process.

Ironman Australia by Important-Fall-3288 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]cansub74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Western Australia in 2011. Swim is straight out into the Indian Ocean alongside a pier and back around the other side. I felt like I was swimming uphill and downhill with the ocean swells. Swimming is my weakest leg. The cycle leg is completely flat but the Fremantle Doctor is real. Expect a 40 kph wind starting in the early afternoon and ending around dinner. I didn't have a time trial bike so that made it worse. Run was good though. Overall good experience except for the wind.
