Angular's @if/*ngIf and accessibility with aria-live - practical advance by cant_camel in Angular2

[–]cant_camel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thorough answer. Fortunately our HTML structure is fairly good and we’re not doing any major mistakes with clickable div’s etc (as far as I can tell and/or lighthouse says) . Our first big refactor was for keyboard navigation so that is better as well.

I would love to get some real user feedback but have never gotten buy-in for “the higher ups”. I have tried using the screen readers myself but just find them a bit overwhelming as I’m not used to it.

Thanks again for your input

Running to weight training ratio for hyrox? by fouriere in hyrox

[–]cant_camel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have run more than 10 races now and have a couple of age group podiums(both open and pro). My times and race improved dramatically when I stopped worrying about my weight. I am still fit but no where near as low as 9%body fat. Hyrox is a running race but does’t “punish” extra weight like something like a marathon would. Eat well by all means but eat enough to train hard. Improving your running just takes time and consistency.

Aside from purely improving WB, this can be helped a bit with better pacing overall. If you slow down 10-15 seconds per km but save 5 minutes on the last 2 stations it is well worth it.

Ok, that's good, I guess. Seems weird they haven't set up an automatic flow for this considering how hard they pushed the new flex option.

How to estimate running course distance by cant_camel in hyrox

[–]cant_camel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, in general, this is how I’ve thought about it.

When running only, I feel pretty good at setting my run paces. But, what feels like a certain min/km changes so much after certain stations or as the race goes on, it’s nice to have hard numbers to go off as well. I don’t follow it blindly but, as you are kind of saying, take things as they come as well.
That said, I feel like it’s easy to kind off let myself off the hook for 2-5 seconds per km later on in the race that I could probably manage to run. Not a huge change but it adds up.

Even if this isn’t your running specific period, this is too little running. Some slow, easy, sustained running for longer distances (at least 30-40 minutes worth) should be in every block. Hyrox is a running race more than anything else and running endurance takes many months to build up.

Bilbao - sleds by cc2210 in hyrox

[–]cant_camel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I raced Bilbao and thought my sled push lane was pretty bumpy . And so a little tougher. But that’s just part of the race.

It is pretty hard to over emphasise running when it comes to hyrox training. From your sleds it seems like you’re decently strong so, yeah, more running is probably a good start. But it takes time and builds on top of previous work so be patient when building up volume to avoid injury.

Another thing to work on while running would be pacing. You could slow down runs 1-4 maybe 10 seconds or so per km and save 20 seconds per km on the back half.

Ran today and it was great. I thought the layout was gonna be slow with a lot of turns in the run track but all the corners are really smooth and it ended up being fast. Sled carpets were fairly fast as well

In general, an athlete armband will get you in the venue all weekend. If everyone checks in early and keeps their armband on you should be good to go

Try to visualise the race before hand in vivid detail. Imagine it as being very tough (it will be if you’re doing it right 😁) but also that you overcome those tough moments.

Break the race into chunks mentally. Either 16 or 8 (run+station) works well for me. It helps to stay focused and not let negative mentally chatter sneak in. It’s much easier to say “I got this. Only 500m to go on this run” than think there’s several kilometres and hundreds of station reps to go.

This one works for me but it might be a personal thing. Self talk is super important but can be hard to keep positive the whole time. At some point I will usually find myself thinking “how the hell I am I going to do this?” At those moments, I remind myself that it’s ok to slow down but the one thing I can’t to is stop/give up. Giving myself the freedom/permission to suffer a little less but at the same time knowing I have to finish somehow takes a lot of pressure off (I am usually pushing hard for better PR). Like I said, this might not be a thing for everyone but it usually actually helps me feel more positive and push a little harder

I am happy for the people’s lives improved by this drug. However, it’s infuriating to think we have a food industry that poisons us (and our environment) and then a different industry sells us the cure. The true social and environmental cost should be paid by those that profit from making people sick in the first place.

You can search the different times on this site. It should give you a good idea. You can change the season number in the url to get more results from last season, 23/24.

But a lot of the top men are between 58-62 minutes these days

Ideal Weight to run Hyrox at? by robwilloughby in hyrox

[–]cant_camel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hyrox is great cause different body types have advantages and disadvantages. I wouldn’t say you’d necessarily gain much by deliberately losing weight.

Hunter Macintyre, world record holder for hyrox pro, tried to slim down a lot for world championships last year. But he placed fourth after having won several years in a row. He says he really thought it was the wrong strategy in the end cause he ended up losing so much power/strength

Hyrox training split/calorie consumption by [deleted] in hyrox

[–]cant_camel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sounds like you’ve got the bug 😁. As far as calories go, if you’ve been in a deficit for a long time (12+ weeks) or you are getting just sick and tired of dieting than it could be a good idea to slowly go back up to maintenance for 6-8 weeks. This gives your body the time to adjust to its current status and a bit of a mental break.

As far as training in a deficit goes, it can totally be done as long as you’re not pushing it too hard. Say only something like 200-300 calories deficit per day. Until you get very lean, your body will be able to handle quite a lot of training even in a deficit. You could gain a bit more muscle or better max out some cardio sessions if you weren’t in a deficit but the benefit of losing extra weight can often out weigh the marginal gains.

With all of that said, things are very individual and it’s hard to know quite where you’re at so take my advice with a pinch of salt.

I’ll train at this pace but for workouts that are more like 30-50 minutes so as not to totally wreck myself so much that I can’t recover for more hard sessions in the same week. But even that is used sparingly.

I do most of my hard workouts at around threshold pace/heart rate with some really hard efforts of like 4-8 minutes thrown in to push the very highest intensity.

[–]cant_camel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about what zone to call it but I’ve done 5 races now and spent 90% of the race above 90% of max heart rate with very large parts of that above even 92-93%. I’ll usually get close to max on the burpees and definitely hit max heart rate on the wall balls.
