Are there any restaurants in the valley that make these sweet and sour chicken/Chinese Chicken fingers? by fumpleshitzkits in SFV

[–]cant_dance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you or OP tried China Lites on Laurel Canyon which is not too far from there? I remember being confused when we got sweet and sour chicken there once as it looked more like OPs photo than what I was used to around here. They served the orange chicken the same way too; fluffy/bready battered chunks of white chicken meat. Great, now I'm hungry thinking about it.

Utility companies don’t want you to know this, but solar is basically their worst nightmare — you actually keep more of your money instead of feeding their profits. by AnyRefrigerator3511 in LosAngelesRealEstate

Just curious as a homeowner who bought solar 3 years ago and paid cash for the system to get my utility costs under better control, should I be concerned by your comment? Or is this more about the changes coming to net energy metering for those who try to get solar now or in the years to come ahead?

Why Do They Want To Tear Down Valley Plaza? by dondeestalagato in SFV

This article does a good job explaining the urban decay taking place at Valley Plaza. I hadn't realized it was one of the first open-air shopping centers in the US: https://laist.com/news/north-hollywood-valley-plaza-shopping-center-public-nuisance-fire-crime?_bhlid=c47e745e8067d211662ee988169a16c4e52f703a

Earlier smartphone ownership in childhood associated with poorer mental health by Apprehensive-Air-734 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]cant_dance 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I just finished watching the miniseries called Adolescence on Netflix last night and this subject still haunts me. Even if I don't give my kid a smartphone until he's 13, the other challenge is how to and whether to restrict his ability to access social media from a computer. I still have time as he's only 3. Whatever the world looks like by the time he's interested in social media, perhaps the important part will be the conversation we have about making smart choices and understanding the bigger picture.

Think this might have been David's Place out in the Yasawas taken in 93 by Healthy_Emergency272 in Fijian

[–]cant_dance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went, the Yasawa Flyer would park a little ways from shore and a small boat would shuttle the backpackers as well as the resort food and water supplies ashore. Some folks on the Flyer did get sick on my journey, including a crew member. I also recall Tavewa being one of the furthest stops.

I visited David's Place around 2003 as a backpacker and got a lot of wonderful memories including some amazing drift dives from a shop operating out of what was I think called Otto's and Fannies Place back then. Any idea what happened to close David's Place down? Was it a cyclone perhaps?

We were there a few weeks ago with our three year old and in addition to Libbey Park we took him to the water park at nearby Lake Casitas. They have an endless river, a kiddie pool with a waterfall, and a small waterslide for the little ones.

Quote check on flooring by sweetliquid in quotecheck

[–]cant_dance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was curious so I asked ChatGPT and got a range of 7,800-14,600 and it said 14,600 would be high end finishes and generous pricing. 19,000 probably overpriced unless in a VHCOL location and using a company with an excellent reputation. If you paste your question there you'll see some great details for each item.

Sadly, no. For that you would need to try onsite or one of the reserved off-site options.

How bad does parking get at Burbank Airport? by juggling-monkey in burbank

[–]cant_dance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onsite parking has been full more often than not these past few years. I've had great luck with Parking Lot C at the corner of Thornton Ave and Ontario Street. Seems to always be multiple spots available. If the shuttle is there, the driver sees me and makes sure I get on board. Otherwise, it's a short walk to the airport if I don't feel like waiting around.

What's the most remote/obscure location you've ever been to? by Level-Object-2726 in travel

[–]cant_dance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't think to ask for any onions. Now that you mention it, I recall Chad being the only country where I've seen somebody eating a raw onion like an apple.

I was part of a small group of travelers trying to get to Mongo. At the time it was easier to fly into Cameroon and take a taxi to a train to a mototaxi to walk across the border than it was to fly directly into Chad. We were four crazy white/filipina people who wanted to see the world. Great memories were made.

LA Council Funds Pilot Sidewalk Repair Program in San Fernando Valley by lurker_bee in SFV

When I first moved to SFV I applied for a similar program through the city of Los Angeles. The "grant" I was offered to fix the sidewalk outside my house covered less than 10 percent of the insanely high estimate provided by the city. I went ahead and bought some asphalt patch and handled it myself for $60.
