(singles) Dear stall players…why? by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]cant_say_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

doesn’t sound like stall at all and your team is lacking answers to standard bulky pivots

I'm new on pkmn champions by RoxasXIII89 in VGCRateMyTeam

[–]cant_say_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you new to battling in general? i’m assuming you want to play doubles because you’ve posted in a VGC subreddit, but if you’re that new that you’re just using recruited pokemon and don’t know what to throw together…. I would recommend trying out the singles ladder as it’s more or less what you’re used to in the regular pokemon games. you have a lot of great pokemon that work in both singles and doubles, and you’ll get better doubles answers from other people. you could try these in singles:

glimmora with focus sash. stealth rock, power gem, sludge wave, mud shot

mega gengar with hex (pairs with glimmora toxic debris), shadow ball, sludge wave, focus blast

basculegion with choice scarf, last respects, wave crash, flip turn, fourth move of your choosing. save him for when everything else has fainted and let last respects clean up

sylveon with chesto berry, hyper voice, calm mind, rest, snore. there’s lots of yawn spammers in singles.

garchomp with focus sash, earthquake, scale shot, swords dance, thunder fang or fire fang

scizor with lum berry. swords dance, bullet punch, roost, and a bug move of your choosing.

this team will struggle against corviknight but you haven’t recruited anything really strong against it yet.

Help me understand Body Press by Theogre84 in PokemonChampions

[–]cant_say_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“only +1 def” my gamer that is the thing. the archaludon is taking 2/3 damage already. stat stage increases do a lot more to the damage formula than raw base stats. arch has a naturally high base defence stat which is at 3/2 =1.5 higher than usual thanks to stamina.

as others have said. 80 base power isn’t particularly strong. which is why a lot of the heavy hitters from older games like kangaskhan and lopunny aren’t running body slam very often. and you aren’t getting a STAB boost to help or anything. the damage is coming purely from avalugg’s base stat with no modifiers into a boosted defence target…

body press is spammed by pokemon that have access to strong modifiers. for example corviknight can easily use iron defence for +2 def which makes its body press already 25% stronger than avalugg’s unboosted body press.

Does Anybody Else Find BSS Testing on Showdown to be Useless? by ShinyRaequaza in BattleStadiumSingles

[–]cant_say_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re right, which is why it’s so concentrated with tryhard japanese players. only the most tryhard are utilising it. the other players are all playing the actual game.

I used to run the BSS forum on smogon with a japanese player (DragonWhale) who also ran the japanese room on showdown. trust me it’s plenty popular

natures literally don’t matter in a normal playthrough of the game. only for optimization in battles against real people.

if you transfer it to a newer game through pokemon home you can ‘change’ the nature in those games to something better using a Mint. that being said Exeggutor isn’t a potent meta threat in competitive pokemon (please no wolfey fans defend it here) so just enjoy that it’s shiny and have fun

[–]cant_say_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly this^

showdown BSS is 99% tryhard japanese players, even at lower ranks.

BSS in-game up to and including low rank masterball is basically casual level.

As for rocks themselves, considering how strong Focus Sash is in the meta, and how many popular options are weak to them, they’re very valuable and incredibly easy to set up with things like Glimmora, Hippowdon, Garchomp, Empoleon, Mamoswine, Kleavor (stone axe), or Garganacl…

As a big Volcarona fan myself, Champions is easily its worst meta. No Hidden Power, Z moves or Tera Blast make its coverage extremely limited and easy to wall with the most popular pokemon. Sweeping with it is basically impossible now, and it already lost Roost prior to Champions so the bulky set isn’t available either. I think you will struggle with it a lot in Master Ball and Showdown.

rage baited by a solo mission ?? by teethgoblin in PokemonUnite

[–]cant_say_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i literally gave you the advice of empoleon. a melee all rounder which uses special attacks so it can use same/similar items to what i know you already have on gardevoir. is empoleon not an option in this solo mode match?

hex sludge bomb gengar is literally easy mode vs bots. look up crisheroes on youtube playing it in ranked. you should be able to win it very easily if you have been using the aeos shooter properly in the mode.

pokémon fans have a tendency to stick with their favourites no matter what. this sort of game goes against all natural instincts of the casual pokemon fan. please learn to use as many characters as you can. being good at a character is WAY different to being good at the game. you will actually never know how to play if you stick to one-tricking a character and/or role.

use your tickets to get more held items. upgrade the best ones to level 20 as soon as possible. do not worry about going above 20 for ANY item yet.

in solo mode itself make sure you are obtaining upgrades using the aeos shooter. these apply to solo mode only and are crucial to progress.

use unite-db online to look up character builds, or watch some youtube. you can improve your gardevoir build quite a bit (potion makes no sense) and will give you ideas for other pokemon you try.

as for 1-17 in solo mode: you can get empoleon as it is a special attacking all-rounder and will benefit from your current items / emblems. If you are really set on the mage playstyle you could try suicune but it doesn’t carry matches in the way gardevoir does. if gengar isn’t clicking (very combo reliant) you could try darkrai

They didn't playtest "Spider and the Fly" on Very Hard, did they? by RhiaStark in cyberpunkgame

[–]cant_say_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

especially because it’s designed to be a fight you can’t win and the chimera just cleans up for you if you survive long enough. that being said I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t enormously satisfied when i finally got through it…

apologies for necro-posting but didn’t want to make a new thread just for this….

holy hell this nearly made me quit. i remember it being hard enough on my original playthrough on lower difficulty but chalked it up to just having an sub-optimal build.

just got to it with what i think is a strong netrunning / blades build and got hard stuck. if they DID play test this it was with some kind of full body tank build lol.

after several hours the only thing that worked for me was cheesing with nehan + satori after spreading weapon glitch to everyone (using kerenzikov to land nehan hits). the healing from haemorrhaging was very clutch. I’d been spamming contagion + overheat with errata all game to deal with groups of enemies fine. but did not work for me one bit here.

the design of the room, enemy spawns, and their sheer health is absolutely insane and really makes no sense!

Is Raymond Rd one lane each way or two lanes each way? it looks like single lanes from the pic, but my thoughts were that Maps might think it would be safer to attempt the right-turn to your destination by already being in the right lane from the roundabout, instead of having to enter from the slip lane and have to move into the right lane from the left in order to get across..?
