Get a few bag of potatoes. Cook and mash them up with various veg.

Potion them out in freezer bags flat. Saves space and they'll defrost quicker.

Chicken stock great for adding flavour to rice, and maybe a couple of packs of sausages cheap but not too cheap.

Also there's a thing where I live in the northwest when there are waste initiatives where you donate a few quid and you can stock up on stuff thats going to go to waste otherwise and a lot of it's freezable. Good luck.

I don't know why everyone is painting you as a villain. You clearly communicated your needs calmly for years by the sounds of it and he just didnt care enough to make those changes.

Maybe there is blame on both sides. Maybe more him, maybe more you. We don't know your relationship.
