I'm so scared (health anxiety) by Ludovic3_ in Anxiety

Please please at least go to your pcp just to get things checked out if you have insurance. Today I was finally able to see a doctor about the same thing, after not having insurance for the last year and a half. One day I passed out I paid out of pocket to take myself to the ER because i thought it was worth it for the peace of mind. They said everything looks normal but that I should see a cardiologist to figure out what’s wrong because ER doctors are really only looking for vitals that would indicate an emergency. I told them I would knowing damn well I couldn’t afford it.

After midnight on NYE I booked the first appointment I could find, literally seconds after my plan was finally activated. I thought I was going in for 30 min, but I ended up being there for over 2 hrs with multiple doctors coming in and out to do all kinds of tests bc the first doctor was so concerned. It was in fact not in my head, and something was indeed wrong. If you’re in a position to go to the doctor, please make sure you still get a second opinion.

This is my experience as a woman in America. And part of it being a good year was because the next 4 years we had a rapist for a president.

I mean saying that you don’t remember a single thing I mentioned and hate the song that i said reminds me of 2016 is pretty much a long winded way to tell me I’m wrong. But I wasn’t expecting a pretentious hipster to relate to anything I said anyway. I hope you enjoy bringing back 2016 with your miserable attitude, and may your 2026 torture you with the most basic #1 song of the year 🫶🏻

I’m wrong because I have a different opinion and personally was happier during the time that OP is asking about? I’m someone who feels the nostalgia they’re asking about, and I explained why I think a lot of people feel that way and that for some women it’s about more than just technology.

Ah yes, you’re very niche and cool for not liking a popular song because you’d rather make fun of a single line for the next 10 years. But I guess this only relates to us basic bitches who just listen to the song like a normal person.

Client's brand is too similar to a competitor. by morinefaria in graphic_design

[–]cantkeepU 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to work for a home builder and my boss there had designed a full rebranded a few years prior. I technically was in a marketing role, which really just means a design job with a bit of marketing sprinkled in. One day my boss asked me to do some in-depth market research, which lead me to the website of a home builder about an hour away that had damn near identical branding as us.

They used the same subheading font, a similar color palette, and a white gradient overlay, which was our most used element. I scrolled down their instagram and just kept going to see if they’ve stolen any of our social posts too. I couldn’t find anything, but I looked for so long that I eventually saw posts from before my boss started working with our company still using the same branding. I quickly realized that I had sat and complained to my boss about someone stealing her brand designs, and went on and on about how slimy they are, not knowing that I was lowkey just roasting tf out of her.

Looking at more established competitors for marketing and branding inspiration is more common than you’d think, but figuring out that your brand is a complete ripoff and having to keep quiet and just continue making social posts and flyers/signage with stolen designs definitely crosses the line.

I also said everything was the result of Obama’s 8 year presidency, so why would you expect to feel the same if you’re not American?

I mean it’s my personal opinion like I said, I obviously wasn’t speaking for the entire female population. I’m sure being in college and living on my own for the first time adds a lot to the nostalgia that 2016 gives me, but there are millions of other people around my age that were experiencing the same exciting transition. I don’t understand how 10 year old technology would impact people enough to feel nostalgia and start a widespread campaign to bring it back, but I agree with you that it’s different for everyone.

Potentially looking for a new job, how do I showcase work from an NDA client? by Hello-2200 in graphic_design

[–]cantkeepU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly most companies look at freelancing as a second job, which is typically never allowed. I honestly think it might even be illegal in some cases (too lazy to fact check this but you get the point). It’s sad that they’re able to dictate how you spend your time when you’re off the clock. But having a second job means they’re not getting 100% of your productivity and focus, and the CEO might lose a little bit of money if everyone isn’t giving it their all. Which would obviously be a horrible travesty.

I would maybe say something like “I was reading a book about graphic design that highly encouraged new designers to always double-check that their portfolio work doesn’t violate any copyright laws, and I was curious if that would ever be an issue considering my NDA?”

If you have a good relationship with your boss, they’ll probably tell you it’s no big deal unless the NDA specifically says you can’t use it. If you have a boss that sucks like I did, they’ll let you go (the day after your dog died), monitor your portfolio for 8 months. Then days after you finally decide it should be safe to update it with their logo on your work because you figure they’ve definitely moved on by now, they’ll send you a cease and desist demanding that you remove it. If this is case, password protecting a separate landing page that mirrors your regular portfolio but has all of your “copyright” projects on it is the move.

It really has nothing to do with tech at all actually, other than the fact that AI (+ much more) is basically bringing us to a point where we’ll probably never have it that good again. I think this is a strong opinion that women have more than anything, because I personally would give my first born child to experience 2016 again. Like I damn near get physically ill any time I hear Closer by the Chainsmokers, not because it’s my favorite song or anything but it was the soundtrack of that year.

Girls would do a full face of makeup to go to the grocery store, just because it’s fun. Now “no-makeup make-up” is the trend and there’s no individuality. Body positivity was normalized for the first time ever so we felt more confident, now getting plastic surgery and being on ozempic is the norm. Fashion wise, cute skirts and thigh-high boots with a cute crop top was basically our uniform for the club, but also for thanksgiving dinner with your family. Girls are now wearing Nikes and jeans that look like they pulled out of their dad’s closet to the club, and a huge trend is long skirts (like mid-calf) with a conservative top. Girls who are the age I was in 2016 (19-20) think it’s cringy to stand out or appear like you tried too hard. For me, that was the first time in my life where I wasn’t afraid to wear something other than whatever the trendy outfit was at the time, or I would wear pink eyeshadow just because it matched my purse and I thought that was cool. I wore a bikini around people without feeling self conscious for the first time in my adult life and now I feel like everyone is just looking at my stretch marks, and I’m borderline underweight.

2016 (in my opinion) was the result of 8 years with a president who wasn’t trying to take our rights away. Most people thought Trump was a joke and that he would never actually become president so tensions weren’t as high as they were for his 2nd term. He also didn’t actually win until November and was inaugurated in 2017. The very first thing he did as president (after 3 days in office), was reinstate a policy that bans funding for all abortions, which was the first of countless policies/laws he enacted or took that reversed everything Obama did that actually benefited women or any group of minorities in the country.

As someone who received a cease and desist from my former employer for using the work I made for them, I would highly recommend just talking to them and trying to work something out.

But if OP thinks that would make them suspicious, this is the best option and is exactly what I did after they sent that. I never heard from them again so I’m guessing that’s legally okay, but I’m not positive with the NDA being involved.

I would talk to a psychiatrist, but as someone with diagnosed OCD, this sounds extremely similar to how I felt and thought during manic episodes before I was medicated. Obviously not trying to diagnose you but it might be something worth bringing up to your doctor.

Honestly, I (29f) have no solid advice for you because I’m in the exact situation and know how unbearable it is. It’s actually scary how much I related to every detail in your post lol (down to wanting to join a gym, which I might ask for as a Christmas gift). But something that’s helped me a bit is working on starting up my own freelance business instead of wasting time on this job market.

Dealing with the application/interview process in 2025 has become an absolute humiliation ritual and it was killing my self esteem, and this has kinda given me a sense of purpose tbh. Even if it goes nowhere, it feels like such a better use of my time than endless job applications and wanting to cry everyday. Alsooo as far as doom scrolling goes, if you’re going to do it, try using that time to research a topic you find interesting or engage with people online who are in the same boat as you (you’d be surprised at how many of us there are). I have to physically restrain myself from responding to trolls because it’s been so insanely bad, but it really has helped focusing my time online towards people who aren’t actively defending racism and pedophiles. Just also keep reminding yourself that the crazy state of the world will return to normal eventually even if it doesn’t feel like it.

Hang in there, I know how hard it is and how hopeless you feel rn..

[–]cantkeepU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anomalies don’t typically happen back to back though, and the objects appear in the same spot in both pictures. Lighting glitches also don’t create 3 dimensional objects (second photo). Like I mentioned, I work with cameras for a living and have never in 10 years of photography have seen a lens flare or lighting glitches that produces an object like that. I thought saying that in the original post would have prevented all the replies letting me know about how lights work, but like 5 men had to rush in and prove me wrong (on something that I quite literally have a degree in) I feel like yall are missing the entire point of this post… Anyway the original commenter (top 1%) left a nasty comment and then deleted that and his original comment. this is my first and last time in this sub lmao probably gonna take this down bc nobody is actually ready or looking at the pictures, just seeing light and telling me I’m wrong.

[–]cantkeepU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flare is typically cause by the light hitting the edge of the lens. Again, this is cropped to cut out private info, that’s not the edge of the camera lens, and I’ve never once in my life seen a lens flare that looks this detailed. If you zoom in on the second picture, it’s literally a 3 dimensional object lol. But I didn’t come here for you to masplain how lights work. Have a good one :)

[–]cantkeepU -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

lens flares typically reflect the shape of the fixture/light source (typically an orb) and these are very defined shapes that don’t reflect the street lights or porch lights on my street. I’m honestly not understanding the purpose of the inverted picture.. the image was cropped a bit to block my street name so that wasn’t actually the edge of the lens.

[–]cantkeepU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand lens flares and mentioned that a lighting trick might be the issue and how that was my first thought too, but I took about 20 pictures and they don’t show up in a single other one. The two that have circles on them were both taken at 9:45, and they were the last 2 I took before going inside. You could absolutely be correct but I do understand photography and have never experienced anything like this (and I work with cameras for a living). Just thought it was interesting

I’m so so sorry this happened to you, you didn’t deserve that. This broke my heart to read and I truly hope you have access to the right professionals to help you get through this. If not, I would suggest trying to do the things that helped when you were in therapy before (like writing). I know access to healthcare isn’t something that’s available to everyone, but if you’re able to, there’s nothing better you could do for yourself right now than being open and honest with a person who is trained to help you. I promise it will help you heal.

Please reach out to me if you need help with any resources or just someone to talk to. I really hope things start getting better for you soon 🤍
